You have wonderful priorities in life.

    I don't.

And, on the forums now, it is decidedly unpopular to still be gemming. We "should" refrain from gemming if we are unhappy with the Update, to hit SC in the pocket. I hope people are doing just that.

But I'm not. I'm not educating strangers because I'm more interested (and selfish) in spending my money on entertaining myself. Oddly enough, I am relatively happy with the Update, thus I WANT to continue to selfishly spend money on gems in this Game.

But like so many things post-Update, it seems there's no point in doing so now.

I bet I'm still not going to spend my money any more philanthropically. :^/

I spent just over $100 on my main account and probably $60 or so on my second account. Enjoyed the game very much. Sad to see it end like this -- for no reason whatsoever.

This is not a negative thread

I'll admit, I'm a gem buyer. Rather, I was. I'd buy a pack and use them to free up a builder if I get enough loot for a new upgrade and get him going. War time I'd gem a troop for a request so they could attack asap and not have to come back in an hour for the golem or pekka. I never bought resources, would only expedite an upgrade, boost raid, or gem a troop to donate. Once the update came out I quickly noticed that boost raiding was a thing of the past, the armies needed for the bases and trophy league I was in only allowed several attacks which wasn't worth it. The loot going bone dry slowed my collection and my upgrading so no need to use gems there either. I also was forced into a more casual play mode (slow build armies, long hero regen time) so I wasn't on a lot to help donate to clan mates either.

So then came the reality check.
I thought it'd be interesting to see just how much I have sunk into this game. Needless to say when I went to my google play purchase history and added up just how much I've bought it was baffling. (Bday money, gifts, xmas, and cash of my own) I had always justified it as using my coffee money for the week to buy the gems so no big deal, but the total was eye opening. When I asked several other clan mates to do the same they had the same eye opening experience as I did lol.

    The backfire
Now that the ugly truth is out we all came to the same conclusion that buying gems was done with. No more sinking money into the game. This isn't a negative rant or threat, just a rude awakening. Had we seen a game on the app store with the price that we paid we never would have bought it. SC had a good thing going when we were happily spending and along for the ride and not thinking twice. Now a lot of players have had the time and drive to really look into things and I think they are coming to the same understanding. Just how much we've given to the game.

Anyone else had a similar experience? Don't get me wrong, I'm not quitting or giving up that the game will get fixed (fingers crossed) I'm actually relieved the update did what it did. Snapped my clan mates and I out of our blissful gem buying fog.

TL : DR - Update made myself and fellow clan mates recount what we've invested in the game. Thinking it wasn't much we checked our purchase history for fun to see how close we were and got a rude awakening and just how much we had spent over time. Have you checked your history recently?
Yes, I am well aware of my purchase history in game since I started back in April 2014. It has been a lot. Over $300 and I still drop a $5 or at $10 purchase here or there. When I actually think about it I do think it's pretty high. But then I remember that I haven't purchased a PS4 or an Xbox One since my Xbox 360 died almost 4 years ago, which is $400-$600. I haven't paid for a counsel video game in the past 5 years, which is anywhere from $50-$1,000. I bought maybe like 2-3 PC video games in the past 5 years totaling probably $100. For me this game is what I like playing and the cost, in this respect, is totally justifiable in my opinion. As others have said, if it's something you like to do then who cares how much you spend on it. You're going to find other things to spend your money on anyway. I don't imagine your plan was to put that money into a 401K plan and have it compound for you, was it? Hindsight is always 20-20 remember.

    agreed with firk

there is a book out there called, how to become a millionaire by your 30's.

    To sum the book up:

Eat nothing but the cheapest stuff i.e. ramen noodles and potatoes with a vitamin.

    Work 2 jobs

Buy nothing, do not go out, do not spend on anything but the most basic minimalist of necessities

    invest

    profit

Doesn't sound like much of a way to spend the prime time in ones life but hey to each their own, you are sure to be the guy driving a corvette mid life with a hot younger girl in the passenger seat, just remember you will also need to buy some Viagra to get it up.

Agreed. I used to run 12 accounts in an mmorpg , I spent about $150 a month to maintain them and $600 every 9 months or so when an expansion came out. Since I started clash about three years ago, I have spent around $450. I stopped playing the PC game (4+ hours a day average), spend much more time with the wife, and saved over $2000 in games I don't play any longer.

Haha! Exactly! Little harsh on the Viagra bit but I get what you're saying. Yeah, you can do all the looking back or future planning you want too, but you have to remember to stop and smell the roses from time to time. You only have one life to live and living it with regrets is terrible. The past is the past. Leave it there.

I've spent $85 since late 2013. Last purchase was February 2015. Money well spent and actually less than I thought.

Good for you, but this isn't a contest. You would rather educate someone, good for you! I am still going through university and I work full-time. I am allowed to spend my money however I see fit, just like you.

I did the same as the OP and I can't believe it,......I have spent £300 on this game over the last 2 years. In my financial circumstances that is totally irresponsible. If someone had asked what I had spent I would have guessed £50, certainly no more. It just shows how the game used to suck you in and how it kept giving you the next target to achieve. After the update however, progress is so slow, and the gameplay so boring, that I have no need to gem anything. Thank goodness for the update eh, and for this post.

Someone, somewhere needs to do research into 'in app purchases" as a warning to the public on the psych impact and the addiction. There must be lots of kids out there who have thrown their allowance into this sort of game.....poor little sods.

I did the same after the update and check my purchase history .. Shocking 6260 $ !! Over almost 3 years .
Frankly I didn't mind as I was having fun and killing free time .
Things are not fun as they used to be .. It's out of the question now to buy a single gem.
