Hey war with my clan starts in about 5 hours and 50 minutes and my balloons will be level 6 in 6 hours, if I cook the balloons before the upgrade has been done, will they automatically turn to black?

Yes. Whenever the upgrade of a troop is completed that all troops currently in the army camps will boost up a level. So yes they will be the new level if you cook them before.

yup, I was about to suggest this .... by doing this you will not 'save' but 'gain' elixir
