FYI I just went to TH9. I'm a max TH 8 with level 6 walls and level 1 king. Why can't I beat other TH9s?

New TH10s are in a very hard place. You are drawn mostly against strong TH10s/11s and a few maxed TH9s with a lot less loot. Essentially you have to use a TH9 army until you can save the 7m or so for the upgrades. Its easy to save 3m but after that point the amount you lose in your twice daily unavoidable crushing will equal most gains that you can make.
Base design makes little difference, your TH9 defences are just overwhelmed by the TH11s.
It becomes either a joyless grind, or you can gem it. Neither are fantastic options.
I just reached TH 10 the day before the update came out.
Since then I have been trying various armies composition in different leagues.
Lastly I farm using SuperQueen in Master 1 or 2. That way I can manage to get at least 2 stars from every TH 9 I find. And I collect on average 200/200/1.5 + the loot bonus (which covers the cost of my army).
You may think about upgrading your queen though, because lvl 15 may not be enough.
I Reach th10 when the updates just launch.. first 1 week was hard and i went down from champs to sliver 3.. nothing much in sliver... i try different combos of troops and now i find 4 healers, 15 giants, 4 wizs, 4 wbs, all archers n around 8-10 minions works well for me.. went back up to gold 1 n crystal.. pretty decent loot here... 600-1.54 millon in total and around 3-4k DE hitting weak th10s (lvl 1 or lvl 2 infernos) and easy 2-3 stars. full 3 rage, 1 frezze lvl 1, and 1 jump lvl 2.

AQ 25. I'm planning to keep farming this way until all my camps are maxed and until some useful troops are upgraded as well (that should be in about a month). Then I will start upgrading her while farming with BK and other army composition
I'm in exactly the same situation. Early th10 is totally broke. You can roll over a th9 but not at a profit. or you can get half a th10 (more often than not) but not make a profit.
Its been driving me nuts.
Short answer is its too frustrating saving dark and elixir. just go for gold.
Or you could try 'milking'. But you are probably just banging your head on a wall to supercell fix this.
I know plenty of others at early th10 who are stuck.
