Let's imagine to be a small landlord in the medieval times, just like a lower TH, with fairly developed production of ressources, defenses and some troops.
Would it be the best strategy to go out there and clash with your much bigger neighbours? In history there were many according situationy in different countries, with a quite heterogene landscape of 'kingdoms' concerning size.
The smaller kingdoms always tried to stay 'submerged' until they were strong enough to fight the bigger ones. This is what 'farmers' did before the update. I do not like the word ' farmer' because it is not saying what the strategy was really about.
It was about staying in the background, attacking casually - e.g. for getting the last 200k for an update - but most of the time simply collecting your resources, waiting and staying 'submerged'. It was essential to protect your hard saved resources but not always possible.
This is what gave me the fun and the thrill in the game. I did not care for leagues or cups, I did not care for aything than progress to become a strong player...once!
With the update I feel betrayed of all my efforts to develop in the background. Still I was forced to step into the light during clanwars, I wanted to decide when it's time to go for cups or leagues. This is what SC now took away from the game. I am forced to attack the big neighbours but I do not feel ready for it. Also, I am being attacked by them and there is no where to hide anymore.
This is simply against human opportunistic behavior. All the development and evolution is based on this, as those who faught unprepared or too early have been sorted out of the genpool.
Staying submerged and develop properly is at least as hard as raiding other villages with an 'heroic' op army.
Both strategies are fine for me, but I want to decide which best fits my needs.
It was the yin&yang of the game, the good and the dark side, day & night...please give it back to us!
