As I've been playing more in the weeks that have spanned since then, I thought I'd make a second thread - with a view of my more refined judgements and progression as a mid-Th10.
Firstly, some background:
- Mid-TH10 player.
- Used to GiBarch in C3.
- Took advantage of snipes and dead bases (who didn't?).
- Initial thoughts of the update were the same as most. It wasn't healthy for the game.
I've been gradually rising in trophies since the update dropped. It was clear that using a pre-update farming method was no way near as efficient in this new landscape, and that the style of gameplay was now tailored towards heavy hitting attacks akin to that of wars. So I started messing about with a few styles, and witnessed myself rise higher into the leagues.
I hit Champion's League today, after a steady state in Masters. Strangely enough, I've not witnessed anything particularly different to how I used to push in trophies (even though technically that wasn't my initial aim this time around). 90% of my 'nexts' are Th10s, the odd strong TH9 or TH11 pop up, but I see nothing wrong with the matchmaking. Loot is as expected, many 250+/250+ storage and heavily defended bases the higher I rise - but that's expected, right? This was what I found the first time I made this climb.
To reach this level, I used various styles of attacks but eventually settled on GoWiPe variants. I found them the most effective at getting 70% for the 100% league bonus whilst also netting me a significant portion of the loot I was after. And yes, this does take time to cook - but I'll get into that later. During my building times, I have been attacked on occasion. Also take note I'm currently not dumping all my resources into walls, I'm saving for defensive upgrades. These attacks have been a split between successive defends and losses, which is to be expected when you're representing a lot of loot at these leagues. To summarise:
Current observations:
- The rise in trophies has been a similar experience to pre-update.
- Similar matchmaking, similar look finding.
- Haven't experienced much difference to pre and post update, apart from how I've gotten myself to this trophy level.
But what about the differences? Well I used to be someone who exploited the TH sniping routine and left my TH in the corner awaiting someone to come steal 1000 each of my resources, give me a nice shield and scatter. Obviously this is not the case and so I've experienced much heavier attacks - but in comparison, I've also been using much heavier attacks. No more relying on snipes to rise = a rise in loot gained.
... In theory. Of course a current argument is that as soon as you use some resources to gain some, someone else comes and does exactly the same to you. However, this is countered by the idea of attacking through shields. You can now attack 3 times whilst still under shield. In theory then, you can raid heavily 3x whilst under shield, then lose some of that gathered loot once. This seems ok to me - and reinforces the "I've got too much loot" threads that periodically have popped up here. I also appear to be gaining loot much quicker than I'm losing it.
However, I know this is all very linear coming from a single perspective. I'm a very specific scenario - TH10 rising in trophies, but this does give me some questioning thoughts when I hear people say "TH10 is the worst place to be right now". But then again, I've already made some TH10 progression pre-update. I understand that the lower THs are currently having a horrible time due to people dropping in trophies and attacking a TH lower, and this probably wasn't the intention of Supercell.
But then again, what do I know? I'm a casual player who pops on every 2 hours or so, does a raid, makes an army and leaves. I've only ever bought gems once (around 2 years ago, mind) and that was to get my 4th builders hut. I'm not an ideal candidate to be giving my views on the game, but at the end of the day I am a player, and there will be many like me who are experience a similar thing.
Summary:
I've adapted.
(As a final note, I haven't hit the PBT once. But I'm assuming that's because I'm a dirty casual)
Much love.
