What about the toxic "Stop Whining." Those are the worst. That being said it's GENERAL. G E N E R A L. It should be whatever people are talking about at the moment. Go to a sub for strategy or base building if you want. I come here whenever PBT kicks me off inexplicably to see what people are ♥♥♥♥♥ing about. General wasn't highbrow stuff even before the update.
I have a feeling that forum members is not familiar with forum and does not use it well to get the message across.
First, this forum does not function the same way as Reddit or Facebook that have mecanism to promote or filter certain thread. The Search function is limited, we all need to learn how to use it best to communicate.
Just giving a few pointers, mostly on Full Site version:
- if you are on mobile site: scroll to the bottom and tap on Full Site. See the difference, try it and know you can switch between two modes of browsing.
- have a look at your account Settings (full site: the link Setting at top right corner, next to Log Out): you can have 50 post per page instead of 10 post per page by default, turn on/off avatar/picture/signature display for faster browsing and much more customisations
- ignore some people to avoid reading their post
- use Advanced Search/New Posts linkg for new posts with links to latest post
That was for your reading, browsing, now to keep track of interesting conversation:
- automatically subscribe to any thread you replied to (instead of clicking on Thread Tools > Subscribe to this thread), see in Settings
- Quick Links > Forum Chief to see a list of Staff/Moderators
- understand the difference between Staff, Moderator and Game Specialist to have your message sent to right person
- visit one's profile and find their latest post ; or click on their name on one of their post, then View Forum Post
- you are using a browser with a search function integrated, use it to help you locate the important word you are looking for.
If you are still reading, thank you, now you might be interested to know how others will read your message. Please ask yourself how do you read the forum and how many time per day you are staying on forum reading. Do you read only by thread title, do you only read thread with new posts while you are online, leaving all old threads (just by a few hours) unread, how do you make sure no important thread from when you were offline won't be missed?
I don't know about you, but my answer is I CANNOT follow all the thread unmerged, it sounds reasonable for me to say that no one is online on forum 24/7 to read every new thread.
What is wrong then?
When you go to a mall, you don't order food in the clothes shop. And when you buy from a shop, you get in line waiting for your turn to be served. Merging thread has the same benefit: you can have all post related to one topic in the same place. What is the different between a line of 10 people and 10 people waiting at different place in a big room? All you need to know is there are 10 opinions for you to read.
Think about a student before a exam, if this student want to revise math, does he expect to open a file with math related documents only or shoud it be math, literature, chemistry all in the same place and he would spend more time to find the document he needs?
A library has books organised in a specific way so that you know exactly where to find what. Same, threads on forum are pure INFORMATION, and without any treatment to organise, raw information is pretty useless in my opinion.
The poster might feel he has been listened to when a few reply to his thread, but soon someone else makes a new thread and the crowd went to the other thread, yet another similar opinion and so on. Nothing will keep those opinions, though deserved to be heard, at the level of exposure it should be without the right keyword or grouped in a same area with other opinions.
Supercell Staff comes to forum and read your feedback, that is true. They can't spend days to make sure every opinion is read if the poster made the best effort to avoid being read by leaving his feedback in a place no one would think of, like page 50+ of the forums.
Please, think about how someone can find and read your message and what other threads can do to your thread, and see what you would like for your thread: lost because it was pushed down OR regrouped and will be read by the targeted audience?
Note: there is a different between feedback for game developpers and a discussion aimed for other players to discuss game play. The latter should not be merged. If you feel an idea should be discussed with other players then word it differently, engage a real conversation and not simply a feedback that could be merged.
Note2: I'm sorry some of you don't like threads being merged and prefer avoid non constructive feedback. However, to game developpers, they are also feedback that reflects some sentiment of players and need to be read as well as other constructive feedback. The best thing you can do for the poster is to offer help to that poster or leave him alone, there is really no need for personal attack or flaming, which in turn will get you in trouble for breaking forum rules.
Note3: Before posting a thread, shout at your screen 7 times and try to word it differently. Poor choice of language is another thread-killer.
Still don't understand the meaning of irony.....
Also do you mean to imply there are no SC employees on the forums and that mods
can't pass info to them?
I was using the language of those complaining about complainers and those making multiple
threads, complaining about multiple threads (like OP) to point out how silly they're being.
The forum will return to normal if the game does. Right now it isn't fun to play anymore so people
are coming here.
I'll try to make posts easier for you to read in the future.
@meonhoc, I hear what you're selling, I just don't think I'm buying. It's going to be a fecal whirlwind once you guys start merging threads. Even with the best intentions, it still feels like censorship, and few like to be on the receiving end of that.
Oh well, not my circus, not my monkeys.
