I'm trying to analyse why this update came out from a rational business perspective. If I was part of SC, I assume below will be my goals:
- Increase the players base.
- Keep existing players.
- Increase profitability
- Prolong the lifetime of the game.
Increase players base through advertisement & exposure. All the ads we see now are already pre-planned and cannot be stopped. So, even with all the frustrations we see, Ads are already on the move and cant be stopped.
Keep existing players through updates and more contents: The update.
Increase profitability: by increasing the difficulty of the game, a pattern we were seeing with every update but this time it was a bit overdose.
Prolong the life of the game (cash cow): more levels (TH11) and by increasing difficulty, we either get more profit due to gem purchases, or slow down the progress of the players and thus keep the game momentum where new players will join and eventually the overall profits will increase.
I believe they were expecting some -ve reaction / reviews from the update, but they weren't expecting that much. They must be on red alert now, trying to restore the balance in a way that keep them moving towards their goals without all the -ve reviews and feedback because it will put at risk the first 2 goals.
I
assume that they are working very hard at this moment, with clear instructions on not commenting anything now till they finalise their next move.
Meanwhile, we wait.
