I am a mid-TH 9. Good base design, adapted many times to take advantage of the new style of game play since the update. The upgrade takes 6,000,000 elixir. In the past, I could easily crank that out. I've used full go-wipes for raiding because I enjoy it, and I enjoy using each raid to practice for war attacks - because that is the only practice you get if you play legitimately without any... 'aids'.
A full army costs me around 260k elixir. So I would build the army while under a shield, raid and make at least 260k elixir, and the league bonus up in masters made it a nice 120,000 (minimum) gain of elixir.
With my town hall outside (farming mode) I was usually sniped, but occasionally someone raided me fully. I could crank out my 6,000,000 elixir in 3 or 4 days. The nice long shield after getting sniped means that I could actually attend to my real life: you know, a family and kids. I could play when I wanted, set it down when I wanted.... and I could enjoy the game. Call me casual if you want *shrug* - but not many folks I know make it mid TH 9 in 8 months of play.
That was life before the update.
SINCE the update, there have been two major changes that negatively impacted my game play. First - because TH sniping no longer exists, every single attack that has hit me has been a full wipe by an upper level TH 9 or a Th10. With 2,500,000 elixir in my reservoirs, every one of those wipes takes me for 320 to 350k.
But supercell tried to address that change by allowing us to attack through shields. Now EVERY attack against me is nearly a full attack. That's a 350k loss, against my usual 100-150k full attack. So I end up having to make 2 attacks to break even. Why is that a problem?
Because I have a life. I don't want to have to schedule my life around playing a game - because it isn't a game anymore when that happens. I have no choice now though, because I'm dropping 300k every time I get attacked. So this is the loop I'm in right now.
I attack - +120k
One hour later, I have to log in and attack +120k
One hour later, I have to log in and attack +120k
I may be able to log in and get one more before my shield is gone +120k
Shield is gone: -300 to 350k
So with supercell's new 'make every attack a full attack', if I build my life around playing clash of clans I can make 200k of elixir over a span of 5 hours. Assuming I drop everything in real life. I can't tell you how impressed my family is when we're playing cards and I say "I have to go make an attack". Or we're eating dinner and I have to make an attack.
Of course, at night when you have to sleep you lose 8 hours of your shield, which means now going to SLEEP is a losing prospect in clash of clans.
Is that fun? Enjoyable? Not to me. Supercell better find a way to get us off this elixir carousel that they've created. Because I don't intend to mold my life around playing a game. As it is, since the update, I've had over 3 million elixir in my collectors exactly once. And that's while I'm on vacation. Once I go back to real life where I sleep and work 14 or 15 hours a day, I'll never manage to keep anything in my reservoirs.
