Hey i am thinking to create a new defenseless account (just for fun) and getting it to TH7-9 . I have no idea about creating and maintaining it. Want help. Is it possible to maintain it at least possible gemming? I am a student and can't afford buying gems atm lol :P
I started a defenceless account in response to others that were skewing matchmaking. Doing great and thriving with this update. Raid and ride shield. But ensure cc is full so you force the troop drop for max shield. Gets harder at th8 with dark upgrades.
I have a defenseless account that is currently upgrading to th11. The only thing I have is traps, teslas and 16 pieces of walls around my lvl1 cannon so it looks a bit more scary. I have lavahounds unlocked and loons are currently upgrading to lvl6. The last army camp is upgrading to lvl7 atm. I have not done a single multiplyer attack or bought any gems. It just takes some time. The biggest problem is getting de without attacki g and protecting it.
What has worked for me is rushing my th, but only do this if you dont plan on farmi g as well. You will get wiped 100% anyway, but the loot percentage drops plus you unlock new mines or mine levels.
For the big updates keep some loot in the cc and for the very big upgrades save some gems and buy a shield with boosting).
my suggestion is to not go defenseless but to engineer your base.
This will allow the same kind of result as far as low war weight and high offensive capability.
It will also make your building of the base easier as you will ensure that it takes 30% of an army to destroy your base.
Yea I had 100% defenseless th10 account except for cannon but since the update I added traps ( giant bombs, small bombs and spring traps) I also added telsas cause of the army amount needed to be used to get shield. You can't do a defenseless now with just cannon cause when you just have cannon you most likely won't get shield even with rein in cc. But yea you can do it without getting gems if you have time to farm for it.
I have 2 defenseless accounts, both TH9 and both with 15-20 level heros.
Unless I actually play heavily with these accounts, they are not going to be progressing any further. I need 100k DE for any upgrade and that is very hard to accomplish sans effort. I am happy with them. They can stay TH9 forever.
I am starting one aswell... not going to attack much and probably going to bring it to town hall 7 so I can 3 star the middle guys in war
it is possible to create a war village with only 1 cannon, 1 townhall, 1 army camp, 1 barracks, 1 gold and 1 elixir storage, 1 collector and 1 mine and a clan castle. after that you can progress to your regular village while not adding anything with your war base

Starting a defenceless account now is pretty stupid unless you have the time to do some massive farming sessions (and by that I mean farming a FULL upgrade -later on it's 6-8kk elixir- at one sitting, which currently is... 4h until personal break?). If you won't spend what you farmed in one sitting, people will farm you with less than 30% Army Camp capacity, you will NOT get shield, get farmed without shield again... and again... and again... Until your storages are empty OR until someone is stupid enough to attack you with more than 30% of AC capacity (and people were attacking my "young defenseless account" before the update with nothing more than 1-2 giants and literally few barbs. Having defensless right now is as awesome as it was, STARTING defenseles account after the update is a much, much bigger effort than before.

A pointless strategy as war weight is calculated from your main village....
