I have been an avid farmer for the past 3 years and in just the past year, I have farmed 1.2 billion gold and have been keeping up with the farming community so I would say I have a pretty good understanding about fast and efficient farming.
Note: This thread is strictly from a farming perspective.
What Supercell thinks farming is:
Supercell says that farming was not the intended way to play this game because they defined farming as an exploitation of the game to get free shields and protect your own resources. The truth is, farming is far more than that.
What farming really is:
Farming is finding the most efficient way to net the most amount of resources in the least amount of time. This usually requires a fast army (barch, Bam, gibarch etc.) because they are the fastest armies. What is required to work together with this fast army are types of bases which used to be commonly found which are the dead bases and feasible storage bases (meaning no crazy maxed out town hall 10 bases). The problem now is the lack of the type of bases from before and the playing limits of the personal limits.
In order to be the most efficient, people started putting their town halls outside of their bases, stopped worrying about trophies, and even dropped to lower trophies to keep their loot and it was the trying to be fast and efficient mentality that led to these discoveries.
Why farming is necessary for the game:
Farming is what allows the dedicated players (who don't want to spend a fortune) to progress quickly and have fun. What is required to make this progress is a cheap army and raiding A LOT. Now, if all the bases that shows up are active storage bases deep in the core, people are going to need heavier armies. Heavy armies take a long time to train and cost way too much to actually be able to profit. Call me crazy but I've never heard of anyone fully max out a town hall 10 base with GoWiPe. This aspect of the game is also the most enjoyable part of the game and the reason why I have even bought gems. I have tried trophy pushing, warring, and even donating but farming is the only thing that keeps me in this game.
"Removing farming" removes a cycle of the game that most players go through to get to the next level. The cycle starts off with farming and while some find that farming isn't their thing, others do and stay in this game until they complete their base and it is then when they start the next process of trophy pushing or just doing wars and socializing with clanmates.
Changes we can adapt to:
If Supercell wants to take away the free shields, so be it because I can agree, the game was not meant to have the supposedly most important structure be put outside without any protection. The next change, PBT does not affect the majority of the farmers too much since 4 hours is plenty for a few boost sessions and nothing is stopping you except a few minute that you can use for some rest. Basically, change is good as long as it doesn't ruin the core of farming.
The positives to look at:
I'm not usually one to complain about updates so I usually like to look at the positives. The first one is that searching for bases doesn't break your shield. This was a problem I had with the pre update when I would come online to just do an attack but end up giving up after not finding anything. Not having a full shield loss for attacking is another positive. At least it allows for players to get in 3-4 attacks completely under the radar before. Finally, supercell is attempting to make changes for the better of this game and we should all appreciate this and be patient for supercell to make the necessary changes.
