Observation of a TH8

I am a nearly maxed TH8 on one of my accounts. I can only use elixir on making spells and troops so my storages are nearly full. All my defenses are maxed so I am upgrading walls with gold. Since the update I have had between 18,000 to 24,880 DE. I have not researched anything since the update. I need 40,000 DE to upgrade my king and based on the prior two plus years of playing (on three other accts that are TH9s and 10s) I would have easily had enough DE to make the upgrade.

since the update, I have been pounded every 12 hours by TH9s. I've gone from crystal I to silver. Still get pounded. I realized there is no hiding because I am rich in elixir and junkies need it to fuel their addiction. It dawned on me that I am losing more DE than I am making and or looting so somethings going to have to change, but that is not the point here. That's a decision for each individual to make.

the observation is that a casual player (raiding 2-4 times a day) is treading water once their DE storages hit 18,000 DE. As a TH8, 6% of my DE can be taken from my storages. I can produce 2180 per day. Dividing 2180 by 6% gives you 18,000. There is also a cap on elixir/gold where people will tread water as well but I'm keeping it simple.

my point is, it is impossible for a casual player to finish upgrades at Th8 under the current system. One either has to accept that reality or modify the way in which they play to become more active, boost their barracks and try to get DE either from either constant raiding or constant Milking.


And and as a side note, once you start seeing people post in the forums that they only continue playing because of the teammates, clan mates, faction mates, et al, the game has jumped the shark. While reading posts on here, keep a mental note of how often to see that mentioned - and in my opinion Fonzi has the water skis on and has entered the lake (if you are under 40 you may have to google that reference).

Thank you for sharing your experience it does hit a chord with me as I'm in a similar position. Perhaps I have an unique perspective as before the update dropped I had already maxed my TH8 with the exception of a few Small bombs. Before the update I had, like every TH8 of similar level, all my Elixir storage filled, some DE, and a paltry amount of gold. I wasn't in any rush to grab any reasoures as I was slowing down after spending four months maxing my TH8 base.

In in the past, much to the consternation of my clan mates, I had always attacked with a full war army. I rationalized this as it was training for War and probably my hyper competitive nature to always wanted to three star. I did have my TH outside and would take advantage of the snipe shield which almost always was granted.

Post update, TH inside, I still attack with a full Army and have now been able to easily fill up my gold and keep it along with my elixir near max. Same attitude on my part, try to three star everyone and now I'm in Masters 2. I attack 7-8 times a day (very active) and I was keeping afloat. Then I found the error in the strategy. Dark Elixir. Building a TH8 GoHo was making me DE poor. I've switched to a GoWiPe and started raiding only for DE. (A slight savings vs GoHo but having more troops that aren't selective about targeting like hogs). I tried mass dragons but it took too long to build and I wasn't keeping up against the constant TH9 ♥♥♥ kicking I was suffer as soon as my shield down.

Long story short - I play the way Supercell envisions: Full Army Raids, highly active, high clan donations, will purchase gems at ever new TH upgrade to get over the rough start, and a strong advocate for the game. That being said, I'm really hesitate in upgrading to TH9. I don't know if I want to go through the grind to max out TH9. The update which should have only helped me has made the game less enjoyable. No one in my Clan has quit but more than usual have opted out of wars and some talk about taking time off.

While typing this I just got hit for 445K gold, 250K Elixir, 1200 DE by a TH9 and have a 16hr shield. Right now this is meaningless to me as everything is max. I'll try to squeeze four attacks in and hope I get ahead before I get taken out again. I'm not quitting the game but I'm not upgrading anytime soon.

Honestly, SuperCell you have unbalanced the Game.

Imo, if you are a high loot TH8, you are getting hit anywhere you go. You are a diamond right now in a sea of destitute TH8.

My TH8 in champs 3 does well with a mass dragon army. It requires some skill though.. There are still TH8 up here doing well with gowipe, goho, and mass dragons. Imo, if you are able, and you enjoy the "war" style of matchmaking, raising in leagues up to a certain point (I'd say Champ 3), is only beneficial for DE. Gowipe is probably better for Lix farming. I can usually come Ahead in elixir even with a super heavy elixir comp such as mass dragons and spells. I'm able to 2 star most TH9 and 3 Star any TH8 I come across. And you know how max TH8 are elixir heavy so I can usually come back with 400-600k Lix to cover and get a little ahead. DE and gold are super super plentiful. I would use gowipe if I was going more for Lix.

I agree with the push up leagues, i am th8 in champ to and i am doing the same thing without the mass dragons though lol. A few other troop lineups can be cheaper and just as effective

I totally agree. That is why I pushed up rather than go down after the update. My rational is that any TH9 is going to take me out so why not get the higher league bonus. Also, I can say that I've only gotten hit once with a sub 30% attack. If I dropped down to Gold I'm guessing that would happen often. The DE is the thing. If I upgrade to TH9 I don't know how I can keep all the Royals upgrading in this current environment without major Gemming.

Taking time to master GoVaLo would be a good thing. Now that you can bank a CC Quake, that means you can get a heal/rage and 4 quakes. It's pretty good against spread out 9's

Yea. Only reason I use drags is because I'm kind of inactive on that acc, fairly new TH8, and I use them in war. Only play on this account to maintain league .. Only positive about drags is that I almost always 3 star any other TH8.. I'm pretty good with ground war armies too but it's usually a 2 star in my experience across the board.. More reliable 2 star against TH9 but less reliable for TH8. Just my experience. Glad you are doing well up here too. We are few and far between but we exist!

Who the heck knows. I know my TH9 loved fat and juicy TH7/8 under the old system. They almost always had max loot. I could never do what SAvage Seven did and next for half the day in mindless boredom. They also had to play around trapped bases and 2 STar max 9s with a TH7 dragon army.. Even if there were no dedicated snipers, everyone else would eat up the snipes anyway.. We would just get a few more possibly during our normal raiding..

A lot of people have moral issues on what is right and wrong way to play the game.. There used to be so many and now there are maybe 2 major viable ways to play the game (play for bonus or dumpster dive in the leagues and trophy drop), unless you are a max 10 that everyone skips and you can use gibarch or barch in masters.. not everyone can do that..

Stephenwolf - slightly off topic but I've been wonder if Valks at Level 2 are good enough for a GoVaLo. Also if TH8s have enough troop capacity to pull of air/land combo attacks. Could you advise?

I'm basically max th 8, 40 ish walls left. So right now my main goal in raiding is getting gold. Just like it's always been since my early th 8 days, when I raid, my gold target is 300k although I usually settle for 280, 290k. This was no prob pre update in any league between silver 3 and crystal 3. Post update was great for the first couple days. I ended up finding several 450k+ gold raids. But since then, finding gold has been impossible. 200k is now my new goal which even then takes 10, 15, 20 to find and often loosing 50k in hitting next.

Seeing others have luck in Champs with the loot bonus really temps me to travel up there.

Obviously this new "farming" Era won't last and the economy will eventually crash. Defending against hungry th9s is also impossible, especially with level 20+ hero's. I thought somewhere in the update I heard that cross th attacking would be near impossible? Either way, I think that's one of the several ways SC could help fix this update.
Additionally, I think the next bottom should be replaced with gold and elixir; keeping the same price but using half elixir and half gold. Everytime a person hits "next" on your base, that money is either put towards the win bonus of just pilled into the loot already available. This keeps gold from magically vanishing from the economy.
