Fundamental Game Play Change - Risky Proposition?
The game reached immense popularity based on current game play. I assume, like myself, many players have adapted their behaviors around the the system. Those behaviors became habit, and habit is just a way of life. Now, many players will need to change their way of life to adjust to new game play.
Here is the risk:
- How will the new game play affect the hard-core gamer? casual player? gemmer? farmer? maxed th10s? etc.
- Will these folks have the patience to adjust their habits to continue to play CoC?
To answer the first, everyone is affected by the changes but to different magnitudes. So the risk does not carry the same weight for each player. But each player will somehow be affected by the change in habits that they must adjust to. If its too much, some players will move on to another hobby. If its minimal, some players will continue to play CoC.
In my opinion, as a stand alone update the Shield Changes would have a high possibility to significantly reduce the amount of gamers and potentially cripple the game. No one wants to be forced to change their ways. However, Supercell has cleverly included this fundamental game change with additional updates to soften the blow. There will be excitement for TH10, new Dark hero, new loot bonuses, etc. to distract or at least deter all the attention from its clients adjusting to new gaming habits. In other words, a spoon full of sugar helps the medicine go down.
It could also be a popular game change that reignites interest in the game, draws in new players and brings back abandoned accounts. I am interested to see how the update affects Supercell's clients habits and overall game play. Time will tell.
Clash on, folks.
