I've gone through many iterations for my TH8 layout. Since I'm currently in Master 2, I regularly (80-90% of the time) get hit by TH9's. What's frustrating about this is a TH9 has way more offense than I have defense, so I regularly lose both trophies and loots (and lots of each). Is there any reliable way to defend against stuff like this?
What is your definition of "effectively"? Not exceeding more than a certain percentage in defense or something?
You're too high up for a TH8, come down to lower leagues, preferably gold. You may not get that much loot bonus during attacks this way, but it's relatively safer than Masters.
I suggest using a circular type base with the CC and the DE storage near the middle. The AQ is hard to defend, but then again, it's supposed to be that way.
Max your TH8 asap, and then get your ♥♥♥♥ to TH9!

FZ TH8, link in my signature, It prevents loss of more than 1 storage of one kind to a great extent, see the battle logs out 9s, trying to get the loot. I do admit though that the DE protection is not the best.

No one cares about losing gold or elixir because it's way too easy to barch and make it back. The thing is the DE.
I care about my elixir, I don't care about DE. Why? I never hoardit. I need to get an AQ level I'll farm DE, get it, spend it.
Lava hounds was rough with pbt fell short a few K in the 3 hours allotted. But otherwise I'll never have more than 10000 at most, so I don't care.

You can defend vs barch and gibarch. (And the latter not vs the most skilled users). Anything else? Heh.. No.
Mmm. Sounds like I gotta' bite the bullet and move on down. I've been reading elsewhere about how a lot of the higher-ups (TH9 and TH10s) are dropping down into those leagues to avoid some of the heat that the new update has brought to bear on them. Is the concentration of TH9/10 down there less than in my current league? I'd hate to drop down, only to realize there're just as many beefy opponents just waiting to gobble me up.
I've also struggled to come up with a solid defense, esp. against other TH8's right now. I'd post a screenshot of my current base, but I'm not quite sure if I just take a screenshot of it and upload it. Is there an easier mechanism to get pictures of my layout?
In my book, an effective attack either:
1) Doesn't lose stars on defense
or
2) Doesn't lose gobs of resources on defense.
And, in general, I expect that a TH at a similar development level as me should not be able to so easily roll my base.
I am in silver.
I was in bronze, and I found out that it was difficult to stay there because you can just lose around 5 trophies while gaining around 50. So, I decided to just let coc place me where it wants, and I stayed in silver 1. Not caring much about the trophies.
So, how's the matching here? maxed-out TH8, TH9, TH10, sometimes TH11.

The good thing here is that, there more TH outside. Hunt a TH, spending 10 archers, gain 100DE and 10k-50k elixer average.
