I would say the smartest thing to gem would either be troop finishes/speed up barracks... or if you are looking to upgrade something walls would be very smart, because if I am correct... gemming defenses gives you less exp to to save exp and to also not cry every time you upgrade a wall gem your walls...

Tried speeding up barracks before... Not worth it :P Unless you're trophy hunting that is ... Consider the time it also takes to surf and find a base. and the time you spend raiding a base. that will add up.

5th builder is massive. Imagine this: for every 20 days you are building stuff, the 5 builder changes that to 16 days. 4 days of builder time is 630 gems. So, essentially the 5th builder is earning (not spending) 132 gems per day. Also, unlike everything else, the 5 builder is permanent. Anything else you buy with gems will only help you once.

Besides builders, I would probably gem stuff that takes a really long time but the benefit is massive, or to avoid losing that building's benefits during the upgrade time.

Really long time + big benefit: level 6 troops, level 4 dragons, high level xbow/mortar/ad

Can't afford to not use the building during upgrade: spell factory

Gem uses:

1. Buy the 5th builder, regardless of level
2. Boost barracks--most efficient and most fun way to use gems.
3. Save any leftover gems for when you accidentally wind up in a bind and need to finish an upgrade ahead of schedule (should not happen often if planning correctly).
