Softbank owns SC, sure, but what changes have they made to the underlying business model? Honestly, very few. SC makes its money now the same way it always has, and the changes they have made recently fall onto a trend that's been there ever since the game first began. The strategy itself is not new, but I grant you that more people just seem to realize they don't like it as time goes on (or SC simply goes too far for their liking).
I don't know how long you've been playing, but I encourage you to go through some old release notes (and feedback) and look for patterns. The trends toward higher train time armies, away from easy collector/sniping farming methods, towards wars and "fair" fights in matchmaking have been there for a long time. Even restricted play has been ramping up from the original 8 hour limit down to the newest PBT. My point is at most Softbank has intensified an existing strategy; there's not been a fundamental shift in strategy (and certainly not in the business model as a whole).
