When I was done with all my elixir upgrades (had nothing to spend elixir on) at TH7 I just constantly built an army of 9 drags + 20 archers, w/3 lightnings. Then I just raided the biggest loot i could find, wait 1.5 hrs, repeat. As I got into the 1500 trophy range there was a lot of DE and a lot of gold in weak TH8 and 9s. Also, people didn't attack me too much because I constantly put the gold into my walls and upgraded my BK as soon as I could each time and as a TH7 they faced the loot penalty. As I got up into the 1700-1800 range my lvl 2 drags couldn't quite cut it so i dropped back down and repeated.

Best I did was to take about 500k/500k/3k from a base that had something like 850k available of each.

Now as a new TH8 I get beat up a lot but I'm still able to find good loots and still farm about 125k/125k a raid.

    Red face

It does depend on the circumstances. If you are like some people that can "reportedly" raid 2 mil an hour, then max out. But if you are like me, I don't have time to be on for hours on end, so I don't get that much. Also, I have never made 2 mil and hour... At any town hall. I recently upgraded to town hall 8 with not maxed defenses, level 5 walls. I don't care what people say, the loot seems to be the same. I was getting about 150-200k each raid at th7, and it hasn't changed, mostly because it's easier to raid with higher level troops. And on the defense side I am doing fine. I have only lost a couple battles so far, even though I have never upgraded a tesla ( I don't know why but I hate those things.) my level 5 walls seem to be holding up fine... If you are raiding 1 wall breaker instead of 2 isn't the end of the world... Also, remember you have 8 days to upgrade whatever you want. During that time I upgraded some walls to level 6 ( only the ones I needed) and upgraded mines/collectors to level 10. I would say just upgrade. Everyone says th7 is SOOO much better than th8, but I don't agree. I would say I'm a slightly premature th8 but I'm doing fine on defense and offense... So I don't know why people act like it's the end of the world if you are not maxed. Hate messeges incoming! Hope it helped!

    Just move on

I upgraded main defenses (mortals/wt to 6/4) and moved on to th9.

Game exists for fun. Have fun bro.
Those defense and upgrade troops are what you need. You will have to move on anyways.

Also IMO maxed out troops lv6 is the best way to farm.

I had my mines and pumps up to lvl 9 when I moved up to TH8 and now I am slowly doing a couple at a time to max before I move to TH9 but if that is all I have left I will not wait for TH9...so, like Superhal said, they are irrelevant if you are a good "harvester" but come in handy at higher trophy levels or during trophy pushes.

    Walls, walls, walls

So I completely agree on the wall upgrades. With a good set of troops you can upgrade a wall post every one or two attacks.

And right now you're in the sweet spot for TH7. Remember when you first upgraded what a slog it was just to get enough elixir to upgrade your troops? Well it'll be the same way at TH8 when you upgrade too.

Yes walls are a pain but I just kept a builder free and did it while upgrading other stuff.

BTW on your layout if you're keeping your town hall out for shields move it far outside your walls where attackers can easily take it. You can check out mine rms981119 in Seattle NYC 2. I get shields all day.

And then move your drills and mines closer to your base.

Do the walls and then upgrade while the loot is cheap. It'll make TH8 a lot more fun.

TH7 is the sweet spot of farming, no doubt. This is because you can still get 90% of TH6 storages, but at TH8, you can only get 50%, which makes raiding TH6s basically useless except for the very rare abandoned TH6 base with lvl 10/11 collectors and mines.

Yes, you can still get very good loot as a TH8, but you just don't have any many bases to choose from, you need to be more picky and skip more bases before finding the right one.

People say to max everything at TH7 because when you reach TH8 prematurely, you'll have to upgrade all those TH7 things you skipped ANYWAY, so why not upgrade them when you are grabbing the easiest/fastest/most loot?? It just makes sense from an efficiency point of view. But people are just impatient, so they want new "toys" so they upgrade prematurely. Some more severely than others.

Clearly it's not the end of the world, you're just making things less efficient for yourself (if you're just slightly premie).

Town Hall Level Isn't The Most Important Thing

If you really want to get up in town hall level, then you should make the most out of your army. You should try to use an army with about half goblins, 20% archers, maybe 10% giants, and the rest can be out of personal preference and what you like to use. Another thing you could do is go all out farming. This will help you afford your defenses and will make upgrading walls and troops a lot easier. Another perk to farming is that you get at least a 12-hour shield if attacked and your town hall is destroyed. If you're really desperate, then you might want to consider gemming, or at least buying additional builder huts. I hope this helped.

Thanks for the great suggestion on running two groups.

My usual raiding army, in camps:
    2 healers
    20 giants
    20 wallbreakers
32 archers and goblins, whatever fits

    However, I raid with:
    1 healer
    10-15 giants
    0-10 wallbreakers
    5 gobs
    5-10 archers
    BK

By using half my army at a time, this allows me to attack more often per hour. At the beginning of the day, I usually can raid 6 times in the first 15 minutes by having healers already qued, then 2 times every 15 minutes after that.

4 times an hour is minimum, 6+ is good. I started using minions instead of archers, so that should speed up my attacks/hour by allowing to use 6 barracks instead of 4.

I usually play until storages are full or I get bored, whichever comes first. On average I play about 3 hours a day, but I take a few days off at a time because there's nothing to do, so a single session is maybe 4-6 hours. I didn't play yesterday and today. Today I'll have to play eventually though, lab is free in 20 hours. Also, I do other stuff while waiting for troops to build, so even though I might be on all day, it might only be 5 minutes per hour.

I also just started practicing farming with tier 1 troops (all level 4 still though) and maxxed gold storages the other day at the 1200 level. I don't think it's much better than the giant/healer strat, mainly because per housing, giants are one of the fastest troops to build at 24 sec/housing and it's much harder to bust the core.

I think a good rule of thumb for th7 is 800k combined per 3 attacks, and at least 3 attacks per hour. After troops are maxxed and you get a good handle on queing troops, it should be 1 mil/3/4, mostly 3 star wins.

edit: of course, all without gemming. If you do gem, then maybe double or triple what I said is possible.

edit 2: Oh, the best targets are th5 and 6.

Well, I've been playing after march but I'm ahead of you o.o but only because I have 5 builders. I never gemmed any time, just the barb king and 5 builders. I'm a level 47 now!
