i think that SC need to do something about that. These soldiers are not worth the price of the Dark Elixir, i rather save for my king.

Are your DE troops Lv1 ?
Are your barbs/arch/gobs strong at Level 1 ?
i have minions lvl 3 and they are ok, but i used lvl 3 hogs and valkries in the CC and they didnt survive long time.
Yeah, Hog riders are pretty bad (though they can be useful with a balloon attack).
Valyaries are really far more useful attacking troops, so use them either in place of a lightning spell on offense, or better, have them in a clan castle for defence.
I've got level 5 minions, and they're objectivly great. Unless they meet an air bomb.

Minions are pretty amazing as long as they do not have air bombs. Even level 1 minions can be really useful!

^ You cant really grasp the full potential of a troop if you leave them at level 1. Your reasoning is ABSOLUTELY invalid. Level 5 Archers can survive a lot more things than a level 1 could... and this should apply to any troop, whether elixir or dark elixir ones. Also the number of times you use the troops matter too.
You can't just judge a troops potential based on a single failed raid. Your deployment could have been off, the defending base could have been really tough to crack, the troop levels could have been crappy and many other factors. Using Level 1 Minions once and failing with it is not conclusive enough to say it's downright horrible.

Air-defenses aren't really that useful against minions, since they are not a splash-damage defence. They basically act like another archer tower.

Valkyrie does not provide the value for the cost in my opinion. Hogs, so so, well, I never use them. Minions, not bad at all, and fairly priced. In my opinion.
