I've always used goblins in my hog farming armies. Hogs for defense destruction with a particular focus on splash and inferno. Archers to clear outside trash building so storages are foremost for goblins, set them free and watch them burrow into the core followed by heroes. In the past I would make sure the dark storage was co-located with the th....now seems that is not exactly necessary. This is how I got my second account to 3633 as a th9 the month before the matchmaking update came out hitting primarily heavy upgraded th10s with single infernos for 2 stars.......plus I get all the loot.
Also,what I'm currently using on my th8 in m3.

GoHo with goblins rather than golems
Currently farming in champ 2 with goarch (4 golems, 120 archers) and take 4 earthquake 2 freeze, 1 rage and 1 poison. It's been an incredibly reliable army and I 2 star regularly with it. That said, I'm intrigued by adding 20 to 25 goblins to this combo after the update, so I guess we'd call it GoAG?
one thing I remember fondly from my early clash days was how good goblins were at cutting through walls, so I'm thining the could be useful to help break into that central chambe without wall breakers or jump.

Yep they can replace Barch now. Spells to bring would be jumps and heals. Thread on it here:

I've always been a fan of goblins and I've recently taken to adding them to my barch loadout in roughly equal numbers. I use barch to clean the side nearest to the centralized storages, then release the goblins and drop a heal. As long as they don't get hit by simultaneous splash, they heal and bore through in seconds. Once in the center, another heal and feast time! I've been getting consistent 1-2 stars as the barch troops funnel into the hole after the goblins and kill the TH, then fan out into the rest of the base. I think that strategy will only get stronger after the update!
"reasonable" damage count? People don't realize they're the second highest DPS/space in the game while being MUCH faster than the highest DPS/space in the game (effectively a higher dps with less overkill as well), and then do double damage on what the hogs don't kill. They're by far the best clean up troop for hog runs.
