Have you finished hogs yet? I would do that, as level 4 hogs are the best bet for TH8 war right now. Then golems. you can use them for a TH8 GoHo.

I love valks, but they are only useful in rare scenarios. Golems are almost always useful.

As a TH8 I have 2 options. Level 2 Valks or level 2 Golems. I imagine general consensus is to go for the stone cold killer but I don't see my self using golems anytime soon and I know Valks can be good as CC troops so from this perspective I'm still leaning towards the Valks. What does the elite say?
