I like interior funneling better, just because if it is used correctly, it can be the most deadly thing in the game, but I use exterior funneling because it is easier to incorporate into bases.
For exterior funneling, I like to use either a bomb and a spring trap or 2 spring traps. The attacker might think that there is only 1 trap, so he/she will send in 1 giant followed by 12 more. 4 fly and they only have 9 left which is just not enough to take on a base with a giant heavy army.
For interior funneling, I like to use staggered buildings and leave a gap open so it is guaranteed that giants or infantry will fly up if they choose to go that way.

I prefer exterior. It's better for messing with the giants A.I. Also, as a th8, it's hard to put a lot of walls between my core and the outside so interior funnelling is risky. When I'm th9 I might try playing around with interior, but not before.

I prefer exterior, you don't even need spring traps to make them effective, it can also be used to funnel giants and other troops away from vital areas, secondly you can't blow an outside funnel up if its the right length, if you make it too long wb will target it, but if you make it the right size wb will just get lead away from a important area. Also i hear everyone saying that a skilled attacker will just send in a barbarian or other troop to trigger the spring trap, if you know how to make exterior funnels correctly you can make it so it would take 20-30 troops just to reach the funnel, and by then giants will be less effective with 20-30 less infantry to back them.

I use interior funneling (double spring traps) between point defenses to take out giants on two sides of the base.
The double space can also house a tesla.

I have exterior funneling to make troops take the long path directly into wizards and teslas on the other two sides.
My core is actually exposed by a single wall to the outside, but the wb's won't target the funnel walls to get to it.
The attacker has to hit the side compartments before they can breach the core.
The exterior funnels look like an obvious trap so I don't bother to add traps there.

I haven't used a lot of funnels in my base designs, but when a base I attack has an exterior funnel it's bleeding obvious. Drop one goblin or barb in there and the traps are undone.

I'm aware they still act as a vacuum, but it's much easier to plan around an exterior one; as opposed to an interior one.

i feel like even though exterior is more noticable yet most effective for weeding out heavy infantry (ie: giants) which are the major kickers when attacking a buffed farming base.

Have YET to find a popular forumer to farm.

I prefer exterior as interior makes you very vulnerable. If you are attacked twice you're in for a world of pain. It is also in effective against line rushes(goblins). Having strong walls inside is wiser than a trap IMO
