My strategy has been to have good/great GC friends and be part of a really helpful nh with about 20 people. So, when the DD is bad, I go RSS to RSS in my friends tabs and find what I need there. I also follow farms who have good stuff that's sold in their DD RSS to see if they keep it like that. But I find friends and neighbors better over DD.

Well I don't think I'm legendary but I have very good luck finding what I want (including EMs and premiums) in the DD. My strategy is scour regularly, look behind all the wheat and brick ads, & snap up stuff when I see it rather than waiting till I actually need it - as others have said if you wait till you've got a boat or truck order etc the thing you need will become mysteriously elusive even common items like chilli popcorn and cloche hats seem to disappear!

Sometimes the paper is a complete washout but it doesn't take long till you get a 'new' version, I often only play for an hour a day and still manage to do a good few DD trawls and get some goodies

I consider myself a self sufficient farmer as I prefer not to rely on neighbours, friends and followers too much & I don't have GC or FB friends out of choice. I prefer to shop the DD as everything is up for grabs, no limits, not rules, no worries about upsetting someone for buying too much or interrupting a trade etc.

The DD is the most boring & unproductive use of my time. Even if I found a stack of BEMs per hour that wouldn't make it worth it to me. For as much as people say there are "goodies" behind wheat & other common ads my personal experience is that is almost never true.

But since I too am also a self-sufficient farmer I don't care about premium items at all. I only use the DD to find help flags.

Sorry you've had such a negative experience with the dd :-( I absolutely love it, when i come across those items special to me it's so thrilling and such a buzz! I do also enjoy just looking through to check out other farms, see if others need help as i love that and i do tend to buy from those just starting out.
