Discussion Question:Ok to Recruit from Active Clan???😳😳😳

So I am hoping people will give me some feedback here. I am curious as to whether my thinking is offbase. The other day I posted a recruiting notice in the forum on behalf of my clan, a small level 4 that needs a few more members willing to take a serious approach to wars. There was no indication we had any interest in merging or were on the verge of folding our tent. Not long thereafter, this guy joins our clan. He says he is from a level 7 clan, NAMES that clan along with his clan #. He invites our members to join him. I just got back to the clan and wasn't re-promoted or I 'd have kicked him right then. When I indicated my lack of appreciation at his attempt to recruit our members, he said he was intending for our whole clan to join. At that point without him, his clan had 40 members and we had 13. Shortly after he left, and he was never rude or abusive.
I went to his own clan's recent recruitment thread and complained to the leader about the guy dropping by. I told him I had posted in forum hoping to attract new members, not have someone come to take the ones I had. The leader replied he saw nothing wrong with it, felt it is a valid recruitment tactic, and that people can always say "no".
I feel most clan leaders would have resented this guy dropping by an active clan where there is an obviously active leader. But maybe I am wrong and overly sensitive. So give us your thoughts! Is it a smart, reasonable recruiting move or a classless act of poaching? ⁉️

i think it's a win win for both clans. You are able to avoid the hardships of a starter clan, you join somewhere that is already established and since they are willing to take your whole clan (i know the math wasn't possible but maybe they had some kicking in place) then i don't see the harm really.

Maybe he went about it in the wrong way, as i had asked a smaller clan lately about them merging into ours but that was just between the leader and I through PM's.

    Completely Normal

Seems like a valid proposal to me. Takes your group from a small level 4 clan to a large level 7 clan. You'd get clan perks benefits and a larger clan pool. The larger clan must have thought you would be a good addition. All you have to say is you aren't interested in merging into another clan. I don't really see an issue here at all.

    Keep Commenting😊😊😊

Thanks folks! Appreciate your reading and commenting. In the interest of full disclosure I will point out poster Ryan is the leader of the other clan in question. Thanks for posting, Ryan.

We once had two guys from a fairly successful high level youtube clan popping in inviting me and my co to join them. I honestly admit it was a great feeling being considered eligible for a membership there but I declined politely.
I asked my co if he wants to join them - no hard feelings, this is how life works - but he decided to stay too as we like playing together, irrespective of getting a red line once in a while in our war log.

I think offering someone a spot on your roster is not a crime, it works in real life too with real jobs. Just do it politely without being negative on his current clan. If a team sticks together despite having other alternative options, thats a class act which shows the rest of the clan that they should really stick with you.

As a recruiter myself I typically invite clanless players, I believe there is a large group of good players still out there who are sitting without clans and deserve to be in one.

To clarify, it's true I'm the leader of the clan you were describing but I wasn't the one that made the recruiting pitch to your clan. However, it doesn't matter because mergers only work when everyone is on the same page. We have found some great people by merging with smaller clans just starting out. In this case there is an obvious disconnect and nothing would have progressed past the initial discussions.

    I am the offender

I read a recruiting thread posted by the same author of this one. In the reply to the thread she said she would entertain the thought of a merger with another clan. I thought, why not stop by and see if the clan would have interest. Again, we were interested in the whole clan, not 1 or two members. We have around 40 members, of which 7 or 8 are second accounts. For the right group, we would be glad to boot our second accounts and add real people.

I am sorry I offended this leader, but I don't see the harm in stopping by a clan to chat. Either they are interested or they are not, in this case they weren't. So no big deal. I moved on, I thought I was polite and respectful, and in no way did I give a recruiting pitch to any member of the clan.

    Here is the thread

She indicated that she was not interested, but that if a clan was a higher level then it would be a consideration.
"Merging into a clan would lose us that unless of course the clan were as far along as we are." All I was doing was exploring that response above.

Not a fan of poaching. You could have done this merger discussion via PM on the forums and not in the clan chat.

It's like going in for a job interview only to get access to their top employees and try and recruit them to your business.
