In his recent video on clan war tournaments and thoughts on ClashCon Chief Pat acknowledges that the attacks carried out by the participating clans may not have been the best. He then proceeds to ask "How do you pick clans for these events?" He acknowledges that trophies have little to do with war skill, but also that any other statistics (such as the number of wars won by a certain clan over the past year, for example) can be manipulated and thus may not be reliable.

I think there is a simple solution to the problem, that will make clan war tournaments a truly global event. So, let us treat CoC as a sport, and proceed to form a national CoC clan to compete in the tournament (note that I modify the problem slightly: I am not trying to select a clan, but rather individuals that will form a clan). For any other sport, participation in a world tournament, such as the Olympic Games, is determined through qualifiers: athletes make it to the national team based on their results. I propose the exact same process for CoC.

For starters, SC will ask clashers interested in participating in the tournament to express their interest. Which national team they will fight for will be determined by their location (already defined in the game). Then, over a period of say 20 weeks, these clashers will be asked to attack 20 bases, one per week. So, each week, at a specific time announced beforehand, clashers will log into a special area of the game: they will be shown a base, selected by SC, will be given up to 20 minutes to study it, and then attack it. The troops and spells will take no time to prepare, and will cost nothing. In other words, these attacks will be tournament-style. To prevent modding, clashers will not be allowed to log out and back in until the attack is carried out, or else the attack will be lost. Regarding troop level, clashers will be matched to one of the 5 base levels used in the tournament (perhaps randomly, or at their request, or in a different way). It is important to clarify that, for each country and each week and each of the 5 base levels, all participating clashers will be asked to attack the same base at the same 20 minute window.

Because, understandably, some times may not be convenient for some, or some may lose connection etc., only the best 10 out of the 20 attacks will eventually count for each player. Performance will be sorted by total number of stars and then by total destruction, as usual, and then the top 5 clashers, one per base level, will be selected to represent their country. Over the following weeks, countries will fight 5 on 5 elimination tournaments until, say, 8 or 16 countries remain in the game. These teams will then fly to Helsinki for the year's ClashCon event.

What do you think? Let's create CoC Olympics!
