I have a feeling you made them unlock at lv 5 heroes because you have low level heroes...

I like the overall concept with this idea. I believe you could add them to the Barb King as well. It could be possible the different years could add different attributes to the damage. Possibly fire,ice, etc.
Question. Why is every gear unlocked at either level 1 or level 5? I believe there should be more prestiged ones that are unlockable at higher levels. Each one upgradable. Just a thought.

I don't care much what levels will be required for different gears. Maybe these should be from level 5, next two from level 10 and the (probably) last one from level 20.
Or you could possibly upgrade a gear depending on the level of your hero? One gear gets an upgrade every 5 levels of your hero or every 10?

That will be probably too complicated. The gear upgrades with the ability, so every fifth level. Because it only changes the Ability.
