Lightbulb Registration period for clan war - 1 stop shop for all matchmaking troubles!

Please let me know if this has been suggested/ruled out previously.

Current Issue: All clashers have 2 major issues while searching for war - Firstly, it is time consuming, with a lot of players reporting search times of an hour. Secondly, the matches are not even. It has been argued that with the current format, improving one of the 2 issues compromises with the other even further.

Suggestion: I suggest a registration period for clan wars. Supercell can define times when clan wars can begin (yes, they won't begin at any given time). Times can be defined as 6 intervals in a day, say 01:00, 05:00, 09:00, 13:00, 17:00, 21:00 GMT. There is a "register" button for clan war for leaders all the time in clan war screen, not just after the clan war is over, the button is activated only if current war of clan (if any) ends by or exactly at the time the next batch of wars is to begin. Registration opens 4 hour in advance, i.e. when previous batch has started their wars, and ends 15min prior. (Assuming Supercell system requires 15mins to calculate weights of all clans and match clans, else it can go upto 30mins)

Why should this help?: Instead of trying to find a perfect match within an hour, supercell gets a much bigger batch of clans that registered in last 4 hours. This should help in better matchmaking. This will also reduce wait times. For a clan that likes its wars to begin at 9:00, would register for war every time between 5:00 and 8:45, and will get a fresh war at 9:00. zero wait time for such clans!

Yes, good idea. We know when are going to war, and who is in.

I'm wondering if the clan is participating in a clanwar wich started at the 21:00 timeframe, would they be able to start another war at 21:00 2 days later (so no time in between wars)?? or do they need to start the next one at 01:00??

If there's a registration time, and they won't be able to register untill the previous war has ended, a clan would have to wait 23 hours in between wars to take the same timeframe every war. Or they would have to start their next war 4 hours later, and that could become a problem for clans who like to have wars all the time.

So pre-registration (when already being in war) would have to be available for this to work.

I love this idea. I see two issues with it, but they are minor compared to the convenience it offers:

    a) Many clans evaluate the performance of a player in the present war before starting the next one. Obviously, pre-registration makes this impossible. Not a big deal, certainly. Perhaps participation in the next war can be decided on the basis of the previous war, for which full details are also available, and not on the basis of the present war.

    b) Wartime gets extended during those bloody maintenance breaks. This will still ruin the time schedule. I guess we have the option of not extending wartime during breaks (and lose wartime, and if a war happens to expire during a break, well, tough sh*t) but obviously this is not optimal either.

I still think that the best solution to the problem is to have 23h preparation and 23h or 24h war. This gives 1 to 2 hours to the clan leadership to evaluate performance, select participants, start search, and find the new opponent.

Yes, my suggestion is worth nothing if there isn't a pre-registration button. Just like an army composition overview button is available in war page, a "register" button is needed on the war page, it is activated only 4 hours before your current war ends.

    a) I don't think this is an issue at all, all those clans can register 20-30 minutes before their current war ends instead of 4 hours earlier. I guess leaders can make a decision of who to take in next war that much in advance atleast.

    b) Yes, this may cause problems. Let us hope maintenance breaks are not very common. Currently, we see some clans that begin their wars in the morning, and due to 1-2 hour shifts.... reach their night, and then give a night's break. So if a clan is that much flexible with their beginning times, they can move to the next slot. Else, if they are those clans who anyway like to begin their war at a particular time, they are currently taking a break after every 3-5 wars, in the proposed system they can take the day's break whenever a shutdown happens. I think no one is really worse off compared to current scenario.

The issue of mismatch is not resolved with 23 hour prep/war days, if you are giving Supercell only a block of clans who register within an hour or so to pick from. The main idea here is to give supercell a larger block of clans for closer matches for war.
