As I see it there are 3 basic types of "serious" players in clash =, no one better than the other, and quite a bit of cross over in groups on some or all of the 3 -

1 - Farmers who want to simply improve, complete or max their base.
2 - Trophy pushers who what to see how high they can get in cups.
3 - War players how want to war as much as possible.

I myself an something of a cross between 1 & 3 as I've never really gotten into trophy pushing but judging by the number of "my quest for Titan's league..." and similar thread, that part of the game is still alive and well.

If a person is looking to join a new clan and their two options are a clan that's lvl1, and a clan that's lvl 7+, it's a no-brainer.

So in that sense, I agree a bit with the OP and would like to see Supercell add additional ways to farm for clan XP outside of wars. Something like XP at the end of every season based on members in high leagues. It could come slow, but at least it would allow non-warring clans to take advantage of the awesome clan perks.

Clan Wars update is the most important Clash of Clans update.

If you watch Nordic Clash, Tokyo Clash and Korean Clash. All these events were basically Clan Wars Nordic and Korea Clash were c.w. tournaments.
ClashCon also will probably include c.w. tournaments.

All these things clearly show how big and important clan wars is.

What's your point? The name was Clash of Clans before wars existed as well. Next.

I think this is because they planned to make clan wars since the beginning of the game.

In able to create a good clan, you have to be a high level to get players to join. Players now only want the good clans, level 7 or higher, and they won't waste time joining level 4 or 5 clans anymore.

Since Clan Wars are the only way you can gain perks, it almost seems mandatory to any successful clan that wants to keep going and get new members. Clan perks has meant that new clans can no longer form and be successful, so yes, I would say Clash is now mainly about war.

P.S I was also a player when Clash was just about yourself. It was great!

I enjoy clan wars for most part. I have gotten much better at them so I have enjoyed them, at one point I hated the wars because my attacks were never there and the bases I was asked to deal with were beyond my ability. I love both parts of the game however, I war then once my attacks are done I farm while watching my clan mates do their own battles. I give advice on on attacks, donate a ton of troops and otherwise play my game. I also love to try for the achievements, they give a fun way to show my advancement in the game. In fact would love to have more options to play for.

Wars have become come manitory for any clans that want to be viable however. I would agree completely that clans need some other type of gain ability. Obviously wars should remain the quickest, but for those that wish to just farm but want to help the clan all the same would help if there was another way.

Th 9, BK 14 AQ 15, Skulls done with 210 Legos. Still working on the climb, struggling to make ends meet.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind this. It also allows people who may not be that great at wars, and keep losing a lot, to stay in the game by doing some additional steps. Like extra credit on a test I guess. And for those who are great at wars and win everytime and who don't mind doing some extra work then they can in a sense gain levels much faster.

That would be my thought. You couldn't simply start it right out the gate. Let players, bases, clans "cultivate" a bit.

As many have stated, the beauty of the game is that Clan Wars (and possibly upcoming tournaments) are all really just add-ons to the game you and your clan seem to already love. So continue to play and partake in the features you enjoy and opt out of those you do not.

I think if there is an additional fast paced tournament style format added it could attract players who don't love Clan Wars. I'm am not in agreement that one audience is exactly the same as the other. 48 hours for a war is a long time to wait and plan. I think more fast paced format would really attract a whole new crowd (similar to Clan Wars at it's inception).

    Either way, have fun!
