I had been in that situation for over a month with full elixir storages just farming for walls and lab upgrades. I spend all troops and spells on my last raid of the day then queue up dragons and lightning spells for next day's 1st raid to spend excess elixir. Then use gbarch to farm thereon. I now have full skull walls but left with two more months of lab upgrade, so both gold and elixir storages are overflowing. 😐
In my son's account (which I am playing now), I left a barracks at level 9 so I can dump excess elixir into it by upgrading & cancelling the upgrade, repeatedly.

Try using your Elixir on spendy army compositions. Loonion is my favorite army for this, investing lots of pink to bring in the gold and the dark. If you still have walls and BK upgrades to do, this should help a lot.

Im upgrading to th9 just today, i feeled tired always loosing 300k each plus 2k DE, all skulls done already, just AT to level 10 left. 8 more days to pekka 3. king lvl 10, hogs 4. i dont use mins and valks. golem is the next upgrade.
Maybe people say dont rush to 9 just for eat your base whit no problems. im done whit that.
