It's your money, but I would strongly advise to spend gems on time and not the resources (as mentioned by a few others). The reason being is yeah, heroes are better at level 20 than 16, but they're also way better at 30 than 20 and I imagine awesome at 40 compared to 30. You could end up going down a very expensive path.

I gem my AQ time because I need her for raiding and wars and that's expensive enough.

I don't think it's worth it, but if you can afford it why not.

As someone who has used gems for both the DE portion and time, I strongly advice against it. Spending gems on resources is so much more expensive then using on time. Like the others i would raid for the DE and gem the time, which is what I do now if I have the gems. If you are active then this a much more effective way too invest your money.

Im using SuperQueen in Silver 1/Gold 3 and plenty of 2k de plus bases here... Th9s and some th8s with 1.5k...

What is super Queen?

Superqueen is a tactic where you drop the AQ with a bunch of healers (the number varies, but I think most people use 8-10) and she wanders round the base shooting stuff and not dying

Obviously, it is a bit more complex than that to actually get anything useful from it, given that the DE is usually somewhere near the core, so you will need some other troops/spells to break open a path to it, and to funnel her.

But I have found a mini version of it, using only 4 healers and a level 8-9 queen with basically a giarch army to be pretty effective in masters 3.
