It depends on the layout you will attack. Learn to use gowipe and hogs attack. Remember not all bases can be 3 star by hogs, and not all can be 3 star by gowipe. You just gotta know when to use what. 👍

All TH8 bases can be 3 starred with hogs, but not all TH8 bases can be 3 starred with GoWiPe.
However, with the recent changes the most easy way to net a 3* at TH8 will most likely be dragloon with 2 Light, 1 Quake, 1 Rage.
Zap-Quake 1 AD, you now got 10 lvl3 dragons, 5 CC loons and 1 Rage left for 2 AD's.
=> Easy 3 stars from there.
If you're goal is to learn proper attacks to be ready for TH9 wars, I would still say go hog heavy.
dragons are back > earthq + 2 Lightning spell
Gowipe is a 3star if u did it well
Hogs are the best way , if u get them to lvl 4

Mass hog never misses if executed properly. Take some archers/wizards to kill the CC Dragon and take Witches in CC. If DGB base add a golem in it and you are perfectly fine.
For an attack strategy that seems so OP when you hear about it on the forum, why don't I see that is practice in the game? I agree that with certain base types, hogs are OP, but I rarely see a successful hog attack in war. I was never 3 starred with hogs in war when I was a TH8, and the same now that I'm a TH9. I had great success with it against certain bases, but many bases I just wouldn't try it due to numerous potential DGB locations.
I was also convinced that GoWiPe was pretty much a 2 star attack strategy until I joined a clan that uses it alot. If executed properly, it can be a very reliable 3 star strategy against most TH8 bases. Of course, a max TH8 with all skull walls is going to be tough, but that will be tough for all attack strategies. The key is making sure that you plan for the back side of the base. Bring a few hogs, or at least reserve a few wizards to help clear the back side once the main force has pushed to the center and is targeted by the back side defenses. Also, for certain bases, a couple max witches in the CC can really help.
Don't limit yourself to 1 attack strategy. Pick the best one for the base that you're facing. I would say that drags are the most reliable for low TH8 bases with lower level AD, hogs for compact bases, and GoWiPe for more spread out bases, especially if the walls are lower level.
