Guys, just finished upgrading to th9. But last few days when Browsing internet came out with the idea of th8.5 . Can anyone tell me about th8.5 and tell me if it is still works after the update. If it works then tell me how to create th8.5 .

TH8.5 does not work as well as it used to but it still works. What my clan does is they just get the Queen. And they just work on Army Camps, Dark Barracks, Heroes, Walls, and anything else offensive if I am missing anything.Originally Posted by shahadhridoy

You do not upgrade any defenses except walls.

Th8.5 is for matchmaking advantages in war. I wouldn't recommend it if you aren't extremely active , dedicated to war,and also if you are the only one in your clan doing it. Besides that, th8.5 is focusing purely on walls, heroes, and offensive upgrades. You purposely don't build and or level new or corrupt defenses to keep your war weight low so you get matched as a th8.5 but can attack way higher. People do th8.5 in different ways.
examples:
no new walls, no new defense.
new walls, no new defenses.
new walls, some new defenses.
new walls, new defenes(no xbows).
etc

We're finding out that walls add quite a bit to a new 9. I'm an 8.5...I had completely maxed at 8, when I hit 9 I took new SAM, Giant Bomb and walls. My mirror usually has purple walls with a few skulls and both crossbows..sometimes even a level 11 arch tower or cannon or two.
It's hard to say definitively what you should and should not do because no war is never precisely evenly matched. But It's getting very hard to say "I'm giving my clan a leg-up by not building new defenses." especially with all lvl 8 walls.
I would say to a new 8.5...don't get the new walls. and don't start upgrading to legos. Once you get your loons, hogs and golems maxed for 9, you should be able to start 3 starring a lot of TH9 bases. Thats when you start adding the new walls, Arch/WiZ tower, Tesla and AD. You can probably spend the gold you accumulate upgrading your three TH8 AD to level 7. According to the data, these three upgrades will only add a total of 120 points. I would get all the new defenses up to TH8 level then add your crossbows.
I realize bows add a lot of weight, but like I said, as a 8.5 myself I seem to be mirrored by bases with them. If you upgrade/add like I laid out, you will be pulling your weight (pun intended) as a 9 and it won't matter that you have bows.

I have upgraded my mortars, wiz towers, cannons, and am working on archer towers and tesla's, but I still rank below all other th 9 in war. I have also upgraded some walls. Upgrading existing defense didn't have much of an impact on my ranking.
Your ranking relative to clanmates will only change if you manage to pass someone in terms of weight. If a clanmate is identical in weight to you, but he/she arrived at that base weight before you, they will always be ranked right above you. You'd have to have a higher base weight to be ranked higher.
So for purposes of discussing how 8.5 is of benefit, your rank relative to your clanmates is irrelevant. It's about what you are adding to your clans total weight (or not adding) for war matching. If you are consistently getting a mirror that is much farther along than yourself. You may want to abandon the 8.5 strat, but be careful. You must take into consideration offence. If your mirror has both X-bows the new Arch/Wiz tower, tesla, AD and sweeper and you have none of that, be sure to look at his troops and spells, He may have rushed some offence. In those cases you may actually be very close in weight, even though he's much heavier on the defensive side. And remember, walls are "heavy". If you got all skulls at TH8, and your mirror has all purple walls, he can get away with adding defenses, whereas you cannot.
