Don't be afraid to splurge on armies occasionally. IMO the fun of it is worth the resource cost. 5~10 big army attacks are more fun than 1~2 extra lava wall pieces. Or 50~100 armies using DE troops are more fun than 1 extra hero level. Don't let the OCD people scare you off having some fun.

    Cool Have Fun!!

Have fun and experiment with different stuff it is the best part of being a th9. Do Not listen to these barch and gibarch people because who wants to get to the end of the game and realize that you have all these awesome troops you upgraded and you used only 3 of them 99.9% of the time. What's the point of that?

I barched all the way through maxing th8 and midway of th9 before I realized that I wasn't having any fun and I was looking at farming as a job. Screw that when it is a game and supposed to be fun. There is multiple strats you can have fun with farming these days. Super Queen, miniballs, loonion, valk based strats, and more.

No, it depends on how you use it and what you get for it. I find that taking some minions along usually increases my average return on DE by more than the cost of the minions, and I would thus be worse off if I followed the advice to not use DE troops. They also train quickly in separate barracks, so they don't slow me down. My DE troops are all maxed, and my level 6 DE storage overflows while my heroes are upgrading, so I must not be doing it completely wrong, eh?

You aren't really farming if you're not using cheap, quick armies. The whole point is to keep costs down, and profits high.
Keeping costs down helps keep profits high, but using higher cost armies coupled with picking the right targets also works well, especially if life prevents you from doing long sessions of quick raids. Farming league bonuses can also be quite effective. Any approach you use, however, you want to understand your costs for army, spells, and searching so you don't waste time and loot attacking unprofitable targets.

He did say "if you are a newish TH9".

If your DE troops are maxed, then you aren't a newish TH9, you are a mid to high TH9.

I use only archers for drills, mines and pumps. I use lighting for DE drills that can't be reached with archers. I use hero's if they are not sleeping to snipe TH at the end of the raid. Typically when I farm for DE I get around 10.000 DE per hour when all barracks and my spell factory are boosted. Usually when I farm I go primarily for DE and pick up some gold and Elixer while I do that. This is usually enough to keep my builders busy.

Since you are also going offline at some point it is a good idea to train at that moment a full army to 3 star a base. This cost a lot but you are able to take out very tough bases with extreme amounts of resources. It has the advantage that you can sort of practice your skills and you can take a lot of loot the next time you start farming. I am a TH 9 and for me that means something like penta laloon, golaloon or Goho.

For DE farming, queenlers is best if your queen is well-leveled and she's up.

If your queen is upgrading or low level, the good old gowipe with giants instead of golems can get the DE out of most bases.
We told one of our newer members to lightning the cc....He dropped a lightning spell on the actual cc - no luring the troops or anything. Guess we should have been more specific...
