When they do a maintenance, they revive all of the dead bases (not on purpose.)

Thus, proof that Supercell DO HIDE the dead bases.

No not arranged, it happens because offers are reset so collector bases appear and while I was writing this I got 600K of each

What do you mean offers are reset?

Dead bases are common. There are many inactive players. When they dont play the game, the resource pump and mines continue collecting.

I mean normally there is a queue from which offers are given and in this queue inactive bases are given less priority and active are brought first. When a long maintenance break occurs this queue start to be built again so random offers are given (this means collector bases are not removed) which after few hours are depleted which cause low loot few days after update.

Then the system starts balancing things again and loot get better as time passes. There are more details on how but this should be simple enough to explain it.

Summary: After maintenance (long ones especially) the inactive bases are shown same as active bases and not pushed back in queue

I don't believe that golden hour suddenly releases all dead bases from the bottom of the queue and brings them to the front.

Think about how many dead bases there must be since the game began. We know they are all there somewhere because:

    (a) SC have said that although TOS permits them to delete old accounts after a certain period of time, in reality they don't.

    (b) people have reported returning to their bases after long gaps (months, even years) with no problem.

    (c) I've never seen anyone on these forums report a base deleted issue (plenty of lost because base not linked though)

If all those dead bases were suddenly brought to the front, I would expect there to be hundreds of thousands of them, not just for an hour but for days until they are all shielded and sent back to sleep.

I'd also expect to see heaps of now defunct base designs like wall spike bases (that absolutely everyone had at one time). I never see those.

What I do see is a slightly more than normal number of bases with current designs but full collectors and sometimes dead Infernos/xbows. After 10-20 minutes things seem pretty close to normal again.

Long-winded post but I wonder if golden hour isnt more about distortion of competition for normal dead bases during those precious first few minutes after maintenance or, perhaps, it somehow allows a few bases that were on the cusp of being buried back up for one last grab?

Yeah, I think no one really knows why it seems to happen besides supercell of course. Everyone else who gives explanations are just offering opinions lol because they wouldn't possibly know.

Yeah I guess so. Actually, I was just searching for an answer and came across a simple and sensible-sounding explanation from Tyrael on his YouTube channel. summarising: golden hour is just a combination of people who would otherwise be online but have been bumped off plus less competition for collector (or high offer) bases for a few minutes while everyone is coming back on. Nothing to do with queues.
