I used a Valk+Witch+2Loons combo for my war this time around. Worked quite well, the witch spawned skellies which raced with the Valk to take out the killsquad, while the loons lumbered slowly behind.

Out of 3 defences, i managed to defend one, be 1starred by another, and finally by 2 starred by the third.

Enemy cc had a dragon and 2 loons, which my poison took out easily. Over half the dragons health was gone because of the poison, leaving it as an easy snipe for the AQ and wiz.

So, all in all, a diversity of troops is working much better than a simple dragon. I'm considering replacing the loons with something else, but haven't decided yet.

Supercell really need to re-think the whole CC/poison dynamic because right now it's pointless having them both.
If your CC is easily lured so that the troops bunch up, the new poison is going to be devastating against you. However, if you don't make that mistake, and take a variety of troops/speeds, the attacker can no longer just drop the poison in the path they will take as they emerge and expect to do much. CC still needs to be handled, usually takes time and resources away from main attack, and it is an easy thing to get wrong, with potentially disastrous consequences. This change to poison stretches out the grading curve, and puts more troops back in play.

Every so often we get a war with a clan that inexplicably chooses not to fill CCs. They still attack, it isn't like they don't show up for the war, but the difference in having CC troops to handle vs. not is substantial. If your experience makes you think poison completely nullifies CC troops to the level of making them pointless, I suspect your clan is either truly OP or you just aren't facing very good players.
