Main reason why you get those matchups: you let the matchmaker run for over an hour
Reset per 20 min, since that is the range supercell can mostly guarantee 'equal' matchups

This is nice to know...I'm glad it was brought up. We'll have to implement this in our war starts...that said, I think it's pretty clear that there is defensive value attached to walls. We've experimented with this by having a TH9 with max troops, high heroes, but no walls at all...he consistently ranked as our lowest defender....even below our TH7s.
Yes, but what about his defenses? Without knowing that, you can't draw any useful conclusions about the relative weight of the walls. The defensive weight of walls will move you up a bit, but nothing like actually having defenses will
Bottom line, if you look at top war clans, it is pretty clear that those players think leveling up the walls is worth the hit. Step up to the challenge and improve your attacking skills instead of asking that the game be made easier.
there is no improving you attacking skills when you are a th9 with maxed forces facing a guy with 2 lvl 1 inferno and 3 xbow ...no matter what the walls are.
its enough that the other guy have a descent map layout that it will prevent you from even getting 2 stars.
there is no improving here..its simply futile
it happens on mid size clans and it happens all the time lately
our clan has just 4 th9 and mostly th8 and below/
we keep running into a clan with 1 th10 with not 1 but 2 inferno towers. lets not forget there are also 3 xbows .
and as you all guessed it ..their defense is mostly a th7 to th8 mixup with pink to purple walls.
it does not take a genius to build a th10 with 2 inferno's so it would be almost impossible to get 2 stars on it .
they should prevent such a thing in their so called algorithm .
this is really maddening as i am usually the one having the fight that OP town hall .
and what do i have ? im a th9 that dumped excess resources on the walls. so i now have mostly lava walls and still no xbows ..not that it matters .
so lava walls th9 earn you a th10 with freeze ,infernos and xbows.
Walls should count towards the matchmaking system, but not as much as currently
LET HEROES BE USED IN WAR... WHILE UPGRADING!!!

So I recently ran across a clan exploiting walls in the war match system. The idea is they have a select few higher level TH's who have absolutely no walls built. They then war with a stretched field and this leads to a very lopsided match ups. While three stars are possible but not gauranteed against their wall-less bases, most other bases are only giving up two or one stars due to the mismatch. Conversely, they three star every single enemy base more often than not due to the gross mismatch.
I would like to reaffirm my vote that walls should count for nothing in the war match algorithm. Hey, if you are a max th9 in every other way, why should you get an easy ride for having L6 walls? I think troop strength and defensive strength alone are sufficient to create good match ups.
Totally agree walls shouldn't count in the matchmaking, People who spend a lot of time upgrading their walls should be rewarded and not penalised in war clans
I do not agree that walls should count for nothing in war matchmaking. They are, after all, a defensive boost to your base and gives you an edge over your twin opponent with lesser walls in defending, so it should be factor into the overall strength of your base, just as any other defensive building should. Plain and simple: it makes your base stronger and harder to attack, so since it strengthens your base, it should be factored into the calculation of base strength. It seems like a no-brainer.
Where I do agree is that its relative weighting to how MUCH it should account for in terms of base strength should be much lower than it currently does cost. I believe the same should go for heroes and their attribution to base strength. The reason being these two things (heroes and walls) are the longest grind in the game by far, and the individuals who put the time and effort into grinding these should see some return on their investment in the form of more formidable clan war matchups. This rewards those dedicated players who work hard on these slow and agonizing upgrades.
In summary, walls need to be counted towards base strength, but much much less than they currently do.
