Hahaha, I had never thought of this. No way it makes economic sense.

People blow hundreds of dollars trying to get cups for badges and that makes no sence. I think having an extreamly rushed th7 ranking that plops down a pair of infernos makes much more sence that pushing to legends league.

The new defenses just shouldn't be there if they haven't finished building at the start of battle day.

If you upgrade defense from level 1 to level 2, and upgrade hasn't finished at the start of battle day, the defense in war base stays at level 1.

So if you build a new defense (like "upgrading from level 0 to level 1") and it hasn't finished building at the start of battle day, it should not be there ("should be at level 0"). That seems extremely logical to me, I don't know why SC chose the current behavior which allows these "tricks".

Of course one can always gem to get advantage, and that will always remain because SC want to make money.

I don't know. I've done this on a few TH upgrades timing them so they finish on prep day and planting new walls/defenses. It's such a small advantage and only works once per TH upgrade that I really wouldn't worry about it.

We've had other clans do that to us too. No big deal. It's kind of blows when you say "hey I'm gonna attack #4 he only has one inferno" then 10 minutes before war starts you go back to scout and then say "nevermind he planted the 2nd one". Happens every once in a while.

I hadn't considered the "cancel upgrade" after war starts seems like a weak sauce move to me but hey I guess folks will do anything to grab an advantage, more power to them I guess.

A Trick? Not really. And You cant build any thing significant like an xbow anyway. I doubt clans wait months till some starts a th upgrade for War It happens by accident, and ive never faced a clan who has done this, always been in some sort of war clan

It's not unfair. Everyone can do it.

It really is such a minor advantage its negligible. Would the player have weighted higher if he had the xbows, yes. Does it make him incredibly stronger, no. Especially his offense hes really still a TH8 with xbows at that point. And as has been stated, this is a "trick" you can really only pull a couple times, not a major exploit if you can even call it that.

    nothing crazy

happened to my clan some wars ago, an opponent TH9 completed but during war day, we were attacking his TH8 base but he attacked us with his new queen too. At least we didn't face xbows

This isn't unfair at all. It's a viable strategy... Once.

The chances of this happening are slim considering the time taken to build xbows..

Thank you DragonX01 for my fantastic Sig!
