Very interesting thread. On army composition i always like to see new ideas! As for DPS of an army the best unit hands down is wizards. Then comes barbs, then archers. But barbs and archers have a very severe weakness. They die in mass to max splash. The numbers don't lie, a full wizzie army out DPS everything in the game by a mile. Next up is a full barb army! But wizzie armies have a huge cook time.

But good luck raiding max TH8 with a barb army. I like how unity is using healers, you don't see that much. Anyways, love to see some armies that can hit the core with under 30 minutes training time! Which is really the bottom line. Anyone can design an army to hit exposed de stores or drills. That is a no skill raid. Just like some dude bragging about collector raiding. Who gives a ♥♥♥♥. There is a VERY big difference from hitting the core and schmuck farming exposed drills/stores!

    anyways, just my two cents.

Hello all, I came upon this thread this morning and could not stop reading it to the end. I wanted to first thank everyone that posted for teaching me many things while reading all your posts. Well I am townhall 8 and I wanted to try out DE farming with my own army composition that I use for trophy hunting since my clan is in the middle of a push. (#175 (clan name:Pride&Joy) in the world WOOHOO last time I checked lol)
Anyways what I noticed with DE farming above 2k is that you have to be ready to loose many trophies and it is not recommended to do while your clan is on a hunt. I did 3 battles all in 1 hours and 43 seconds. So about 3 battles an hour, which is pretty good with my current army comp.

This is my attack log for those 3 attacks in less than an hour: http://imgur.com/1X5uFJh
Ended up with 3914 DE in an hour. Which I read is pretty much standard in some attacks of yours.
I usually go for bases that have 1k or more DE in them and that are not too much in the center. If you keep searching you will find good bases with DE storage practically right next to outside!! On the second attack I used barb/arch to clear up buildings in front of walls. then used giants/barbs as meat shields while I spammed archers. Sent in 4 wall breakers to break through a level 8 and a level 9 wall leading towards the DE. Took all of it with ease but since I am greedy tried to get some elixer while I was there haha.

I use 70 archers and barbs, 8 giants and 10 wbs. I ask for lvl 4 and 5 minions and archers lvl 5 and 6 for cc troops.
That's pretty much it. Once my one week trophy push is over I will try and do this again and just farm down while looting all the DE muahahahaha
I think as a th 8 getting almost 4k DE in an hour is pretty good. Saving up for minions level 3. They will be lvl 2 in exactly 24 hours and currently my barb king is level 6. I just recently took interest in minions and other dark troops when I found out the number one guy in my clan uses minion only raids to get trophies(he is at 3200+ constantly) He gets lots of resources and wins 90% of his battles which is surprising using only minions.

Hopefully I can help contribute to this forum again and tell you about my superhero story.

P.S. My superhero story will be cut short only to barbking lvl 10 because I have a lot of upgrading to do as a th 8. I have most of my defenses maxed except teslas and archer towers and I have a lot of elixer upgrades to go, including barracks, dark barracks and lab upgrades.

ALSO any good th 8 bases that protect DE?? Could be useful after the hunt

Have any videos of this all out Minion attack?? Would love to see how it works against high level bases

The discussion going on here between these forum regulars is fantastic. Great insight all around.

Imo, I am sure that with a regular farming army and by being patient in your search, you can get a decent to great amount of de per hour. And obviously that would lower your elix cost and more importantly your training time. However, I have two counter points. First, For people like myself with th8, it is a lot harder to get de with regular farming troops and with this composition I have been much more successful.

Second, and I believe this has been mentioned, with Unity's army comp with rage, there is a lot less chance for failure. Attacking with a regular farming comp can leave yourself open to more epic fails, especially at th8. I would be interested in seeing people's stats for one day raiding de with tier one troops.

I'm going to give a similar strategy a try now, amended for a lv 8 town hall

At this stage I'm thinking of adjusting by the following:

    - 10 barbs
    - 5 goblins
    - 5 archers

I figure the key to the attack is the giant/wizard/healer/minion composition so do not want to alter that.

I'm sure I'll amend it over time, but this is the initial plan.

You can cut the giants down to 10. I was using lots giants because I go up against a lot of maxed defense towers, such as lv 3-4 xbows, lv 7 wizard towers, and inferno towers.

    Good luck!

Yes, running the stats for 1 day would really show a more realistic figure. Also this strategy actually doesn't focus on DE exclusively. It is heavily focused on DE, but I always aim to get decent amount of gold & elixir at the same time, so that my towers, walls, and lab would never stop upgrading. I will talk more about the resource aspect of this strategy soon, I think we have reached a natural milestone in our discussion where the whole picture can be analyzed (in terms of total resource gained).

Instead of DE farming, this strategy can actually be referred to as a trophy/farming hybrid method, since people can use it to trophy hunt exclusively, trophy hunt while farming, or farm bases with vault designs

For TH8 i'm doing the following:

    Barracks1: 1 healer, 4 giants, 2 WB, 10 barbs, 7 gobs
    Barracks2: 1 healer, 4 giants, 2 WB, 10 barbs, 7 gobs
    Barracks3: 2 wizards, 3 giants, 2 WB, 5 archers, 3 gobs
    Barracks4: 2 wizards, 3 giants, 2 WB, 5 archers, 3 gobs
    DE Barracks: 10 minions

Easy to setup and time matches in the barracks. Haven't tried experimenting yet.

It's interesting see other people's views on this. I guess the bottom line is, it depends:
    1) how often you want to play
    2) how much you want to limit elixir / gold spending
    3) your skill level. Can you rely without the Rage?

Personally I'm currently happy logging in once every 35 to 60 minutes for a quick raid and then setup for later. I don't care about saving gold/elixir as at the end of TH8, so can waste a bit more. I love having the extra safety factor of Rage in case things get tricky. For me, this solution is perfect for my DE accumulation in prep for my AQ. I'll no doubt go back to my cheap farming ways at the start of TH9 but will definitely come back to this - situation permitting (see above).
