sorry, wizards+queen+rage
At TH10 you cant 3 star another TH10 without the queen, its difficult enough with the queen.
If you are going for a 2 star the 30 secs you need to kill the dragon dont make much of a difference.
If you are a TH10 hitting a TH9 then you shouldnt have a problem with the extra 20 space plus extra spell and higher lvl troops.
I have pretty much all max troops and I hit a pretty well max th9 and just run out of time. lots of troops left but get stuck at 98% because there is not enough time by the time i lure and kill cc drag and loons.
Saw it coming a loooooong time ago:

I dont disagree with leaving people out while upgrading. But it takes a week to upgrade either hero and my heroes are upgrading constantly because I need them to be better. Should I sit out of wars for 40 weeks while my heroes are upgrading?

If you are getting 98% you just need to tweak your army composition and deployment a bit.
If you are going with goho for example you can bring 2-3 wizards more for clean up in place of 2 less hogs.
And you could deploy the wizards faster to begin clean up, as soon as the hogs clear a spot drop a wizards behind them for clean up.
Dresden, that is part of my point. I like not knowing what is coming out of cc. Now I know 95% of the time it is drag and loons.
Dragons are not the best in the CC, because it is relatively easy to kill but with poison out there it fits a role in some matchups.
When deciding what to put in our war CC we break it down into groups based on what we think we will face.
Our TH6-TH7 with weak AD: 2x valks, then wizards. The rationale is that good players who dragon will destroy TH6-7 no matter what, but not all enemy clan members will use dragons. So let's mess up their attacks from weak players using ground troops and force a 2nd attack from those who know how to attack through the air.
TH7 with max AD-TH8 whose mirror doesn't have access to poison: all wizards in the CC. It's the best shot to stop dragons, if someone has to attack down to clean up the first attack, that's great. Force a 2nd attack.
TH8 with good to max AD, and enemy mirror facing us has access to poison: 1 dragon, 1 wizard, 1 archer. It's the best option out there that we've come up with. A good player can still 3 star you, but if we can hold TH8 mirrors to a 2 star gowipe and fend off lvl3 dragon attacks that require some skill in funneling, that's a win. Again, how can we force a 2nd attack.
TH9: depends on the mirror, will they gowipe? lavaloon, dragon?, hog?, or a variation? Sometimes we go dragon/wiz, others valk/witch/wizards. We diversify a little there to make them guess a bit on what they will face. Tried lavahounds once, didn't seem too effective, but we were facing a clan where we were grossly overmatched (and swept for the first time). Basically, if we think they will throw lavaloons: dragon, if they will gowipe: valk/witch. Hogs: valk/witch.
As you can tell, generally our strategy is to survive the 1st attack, use up their chances, and then force clean ups to keep it close: when we can hold them to 2 star and we can get 3, we win. When that deviates, things get hairy.
