I know the feeling. Just finally cracked 3200 trophies yesterday after pushing for a few days. My poor phone nearly went flying a few times when I'd lose 20-30+ trophies on botched attacks.
I used a modified army comp from Ash's guide on pushing to Titan (his was based on a TH10 army and spells):

20 Giants
17 Wizards

3 Witches
6 Archers
4 EQ

It's possible to get most of the way on D if you have a solid anti gowipe/laloon base (max defense of course) I got to around 3k pretty much exclusive defense. After that, it took about a week to grind up to 3200 with a mixture of snipes and defense. Strong CC troops, and both heroes up are a must, plus you have to rearm everything after each defense otherwise you will get nailed. I used a modded version of Heroes Keep by Blackjuice, config with ground attacks from south, air attacks from north. Makes traps so much more effective. This was before the dark spells update so CC wiz were lethal.
Lavaloonian and putting my th on the outside worked for me.

Im getting there exclusivly on defence right now. Just had 2 defence wins after i put up a new base. The base has my de storage unprotected on the outside with around 3000 de available. I use all the gold and elixier I get to put into walls so no one wants to attack me except for de. Got 30 trophys and 17 trophys on 2 defences in an hour. Just saying, might as well put your de on the outside, if people want it, they are going to get it, and most likely take a few trophies with them.

i just recently hit it as a th9 and gowipe with poison 3 rage and a jump worked well, it takes a lot of time searching for a weak th 10 or th9worth more than 15 trophies(boosts help a lot) 3 golems and 3 pekkas 6 wbs 10 wizards and 3 arch. THE 3 ARCHERS ARE A LIFE SAVER! all those times youre at 48-49% they save your butt

Anyways.....Surgical Loons worked for me.
50% was always my goal- snuck in a few 3-stars on rushed TH9's and the rare TH8 (found two in masters I worth 28 trophies each!). I picked my bases carefully (preferred 15+ trophy offers but sometimes had to settle for 5-10) and won probably about 9/10 attacks. The occasional losses hit hard though. Stayed away from the "moat" bases- I knew my troops would wander off and get fried. In masters III and II, I saw the same base layouts over and over again and knew I could easily 2 star them so that helped.
The nice thing with this army and spell comp is that maxed walls really don't matter. Most bases had maxed defenses but that wasn't an issue- I knew with this army that I could get to the core if done right on the right base.
I also did a lot of nexting while my army was cooking looking for TH snipes. Didn't find many at all but they were there- found a dozen or so once I got to masters II.
I debated changing to lavaloon or gowiwi (both of which I'm very comfortable with) but both of these armies take much longer to cook up. Plus, I was doing so well with this army I figured "why change now?".

I did this with 1 session of boosted gowipe. IMO, try to get in as many GoWiPe raids as you can in a day. Be 2*ing most of the time because if you 1*, you will lose more on defense.
Also, keep your th out. You'll mostly only be sniped and if you 2* while only getting 1*ed on defense, you'll make it to champs. It took me 2 weeks.
