Mods in Helsinki!

However that being said what I have in mind is not being a mod but a new title all together different from GASPs and slightly different from mods. They would be given the power to delete posts and ONLY that. If someone is caught abusing this then they may simply be removed and/or banned by the mods

So would this be too complicated to implement into the forums??

Plugins are a tricky topic. And because as soon as a new version of vBulletin comes out, it gets updated here. Meaning all plugins installed are useless until they are updated. Often the plugin devs do not update, or take a while to get around to it.

We could have 100 more mods, but it wouldn't change the fact we would still all be in Helsinki, and we would still all be in the same time zone.
I wish it was that simple, but as I mentioned earlier, there is no differing between creating new threads and commenting on threads. Make it so fresh spawns cant make threads > means fresh spawns cant post.
And if we make it too hard for them to post, they then post the spam inside threads. Which is even more difficult to moderate.

With all the above said, we have also had some great discussions over the past few days, and are looking at solutions to stop spam and ways to improve the forums.

I agree with ya on this aspect. I've had a handful of really good of support staff (mods). While on the other hand, I've had a couple that just weren't up to par, even when properly trained, let things get away from them. I had to nip that pretty quickly lol.

Yeah, plugins can be a nuisance at times. I've stayed away from them for the most part. I've have used several in the past, but as you mentioned, it can cause some problems when the vb software versions are released, and the plugins aren't updated. I usually update them myself when needed. Rare to need to do it, but I have had to in the past.

This may be technically difficult and there may be hidden factors to this idea, but a system where the community has a voting system to delete threads could be a possibility/solution. This solves the time issue of all the mods in one time-zone and reduces the overall workload on mods even in their regular time zones. Though some people would find a way to abuse the system and create 50 accounts to delete a thread...

Alternatively threads could be sorted- have a 'new' setting where threads are sorted from newest to oldest (which is currently being employed), a 'hot/popular' setting where threads can be sorted from the amount of views each thread receives divided by the time and 'age' of the thread, etc.

I'm just mindlessly rambling, but they could be viable resolutions to the current situation. Sort of realize that my proposals are quite Reddit influenced. Haha.

Mods do not make any decision in update.... And you don't expect all 3 games to be updated at the same time do you?

We discuss a lot about spam bot... Whatever we plan to do, it needs to be developped (coded) and add to the forum, make sure it is retro compatible, do not add to many charges on the current server (might block the forum down completely). Vbulletin does not have native features that suit our needs unfortunately. All this takes time .
