You don't have to use PEKKAs, but you're going to have to adapt to giants. They really don't take much to train, in fact they're faster than archers per housing space (giants on 24s, arch is 25s). Using giants and a heal spell will get you a decent amount into the base. Remember, you still can pick drill raids and on TH7s.

What is Gianty and Pekky? GiBarch is what I did at TH8 and still doing at TH9. I actually run GiArch more than anything. You shouldn't have that much trouble getting DE. I have found some very weak TH8 bases with over 1500k DE.

Mass dragons with lightning spells, I used to be a zapper and it's been tough but mass dragons especially if you have extra Elixir works. Destroys almost any TH8 base.
