I found it really hard to get enough de in the lower leagues so I pushed to champion (for the gems), dropped down to masters and now snipe ths and raid what I can for the loot bonus.

Both my heroes are currently upgrading to level 21.

They've been sleeping for about 3 months now.. Lavas almost finished (8 to go). Missed out on heroes but now they both are on upgrade all the time so yea, you're right.. 3 sleeping builders for about 2-3 more months but meanwhile I can have a break from such heavy farming. Lava farming drained me.

I actually love th9 so i don't see it as a grind. k26 Q21 currently in champs swimming in de looning with occasional snipe.

Spend as much builder time on them as possible, both down at all times if you farm a lot. If you use only 2 builders for defenses, then your heroes will be in their lower 20s by the time you finish the defenses. That is when you can make your decision on whether to grind out the last couple months with idle builders or move up to th10 and have to work on them later.
As pointed out, super queen only works for bursts of de in between upgrades. During the upgrades, you'll have to get comfy with GiBarch (crystal) or Loonion (master) farming for dark elixir with no heroes. The reduced spell cook times mean that you can use at least a heal (GiBarch) or rage (Loonion) with every attack, so keep that factory brewing at all times.

i did it farming in crystal 3/crystal2 with BAMGI currently i have lvl 30 queen and bk will be 30 in 4days got 18 lavas left and will be th10 in 9days, its not too bad in crystal its easy to core for de especially since you wont have hereos i kept mine 3-4days apart it blows being without them but once they are done they are amazing both warring vs th10s and in farming i would say its worth it imo if your walls are done OR heroes are done then its time to move up ideally you want to do them both so they finish about same time like mine gl on your de farming if you go this route.

Sleeping builders, and clan mates that were 15 player levels behind you catching/overtaking you. Some players don't like this, others don't mind. I'm grinding walls and heroes at the moment as a maxed TH9. I have a couple mates that lose their mind if a builder is sleeping. To each his own- but when I get to TH10 with all lavas and heroes up near 30/30...I will have a far easier time with the transition.

I've seen plenty of players fall off and give up at TH10 when going early. Its a totally different level for most. Can lose a lot of the fun factor depending on how or what style you are playing. Those that war and are used to three starring with regularity suddenly find themselves posting ones, two stars at best.

The benefit of having stronger heroes is definitely worth the upgrade. However the time it would have taken me was not worth sitting there, with all my defenses done, for 2-3 months, just farming DE was just more wasted time.

This is one area where the game is really screwed up. A change needs to be made. They give you the queen so late in the game and only let the king get to level 10 before you get the queen and they throw it on top of the longest upgrades.

Heroes should be usable while upgrading and shouldn't even require builders to upgrade. At TH9 and 10 they are an integral part of the game and yet for at least a year they're disabled. The gem cost is an insult to long time players and is not an option.

Yes at least we can use heroes in clan wars while upgrading

I have builders sleeping as i upgrade my heros. Im going to do my best to make it lvl 30 with both. At this moment i have lvl 20 king a lvl 17 queen and i am maxed on everything else except walls (100 lavas the rest legos)
