Upgrade; drags, loons, lightning, (you can now 813 light), hogs3, heal, hogs4, (you can now hog, dragon snipe), rage, (105 dragoon opens up), wbs, golem ( can now goho), pekkas2, poison spell, pekkas3, wiz, (can now gowipe), valk (Gowiva, govape available), Giants, healers, (giheho opens up).

That's about the quickest progression to unlocking the standard th8 war hits.

Upgrade Dragons and Balloons as a start. After that upgrade Hogs to lvl.4 and unlock Golems to use GoHo.

Well in regards to your op where you wanted to be effective vs other th8s as fast as possible I'd advise against that. Gowipe will take a while to max and even then it's only a 3 star strategy on a handful of bases. Dragoon and hogs are faster to upgrade and will give you more opportunities to get those 3 star attacks you want. Gowipe is mainly used in late th8 when you have to at least 2 star a th9.

If he is facing nearly max th8s (3 lvl 6 air defenses) then I feel even level 3 drags are inconsistent at best. Hogs are king at th8, unfortunately the 2 levels you need to upgrade take 3 weeks to get and a bunch of DE.

Agreed, but he shouldn't often be facing near maxed TH8 until he is near maxed himself.

For a new TH8 with LVL2 dragons, I would say lvl3 drags shuold be your first upgrade - he will sometimes come up against bases that aren't susceptible to them, but more often should get 3*.

But level 2 drags don't cut it against 3 ADs even of lvl 4 or 5.

Today I gowiped for the first time against a mid th8 I grabbed a 2star 92%. I removed a pekka and added 5 of my level 2 hogs. I 3 starred a maxed th8. I think Hoga is a pretty good idea. So I will go for hoga after level 5 wizards thanks
