Heya SuperCell.
As it's currently played, COC requires the use of an outside mode of communications in order to maintain a sophisticated war-machine -- think KIK or mIRC. Without this outside means of talking between feeder clans, coordination is all but impossible. If you were to figure out how to create a usable communication bridge between related clans, third-party software would be rendered obsolete. From a corporate standpoint, this amounts to people spending even more time within your software, which essentially equates to higher sales. So players get to enjoy easier in-game communications, and SuperCell profits. That's a win-win.
I realize there might be a physical limitation in the code that prohibits a communication bridge from being formed between clans (I'm unfamiliar with it, so I can't say one way or another), but what about modifying *intra-clan* communication? That might be significantly easier. Which brings me to the actual reason I created this post:
Having a leader-only privilege that enables him to freeze the chat log and continue talking (so that he can ensure everyone has had an opportunity to read a message over the course of, say, a 24hr period) would greatly enhance the leader's ability in-game to maintain a level of discipline that consistently wins wars. The clan mail system just isn't adequate to disseminate required information, given the character-count limit. It's fine for short, long-term messages, but messages regarding strategy and clan operations can't fit. Having the ability to get such messages across without having it disappear in an hour off the bottom of the chat log would be a major boon to clan discipline.
This could be accomplished by creating a button in the chat that mutes everyone but the leader (which is my preferred method). Another way to accomplish this would be by giving the leader the ability to mute individuals, at which point he could just mute them all. This second method, however, is a double-edged sword. On the plus side, the leader would have the ability to mute consistently disruptive players that wouldn't otherwise be kick-able. On the down side, it opens the door to some pretty fascist behavior. If you were to give the leader that much power, you'd have an awesome psych-study sitting in your databanks. Unless, of course, you delete all that data.
Anyway, think about the post. I think it's got good ideas.
