I'm a TH9 with all building upgrades done except for level 5 of the second air sweeper and level 3 of the dark spell factory. I've been farming legos and AQ upgrades from level 10 to level 15 for a little while, and I've found that 1900s with a Crystal 3 badge has been ideal for farming gold and DE storage raids from TH8s, especially with the AQ asleep. I've been using GiBarch (52 arch, 72 barb, 16 giants, 8 wallbreakers, and level 15 BK), and I can easily get 1/2 to 2/3 of the loot from TH8s. However, I'm remaining elixir neutral on raids since it costs 103k per raid with level 6 troops.
I needed to build up the elixir for the dark spell factory level 3 upgrade plus about a 500k buffer so I wouldn't be broke for war. Taking some advice from the forums to ignore DE/gold and focus on elixir and turnover time, I switched over to BAM (2 racks barbs, 2 racks archers, 2 racks minions). I also stopped caring about win bonuses that would cost me more troops. As I was dropping trophies, I found a lot of juicy collector raids once I started getting into Gold 2. I'd snipe a TH if I saw it, but if it was trapped, I'd pull out immediately unless there were good collectors to hit. I didn't want to lose time to training more troops just to take down a trapped TH. Got the 3 million elixir I was lacking after a 2 hour boost session (plus about 30 minutes extra unboosted) yesterday afternoon. I was able to snipe my way back up to 2000 from around 1550 over the course of 3 hours yesterday evening. Other than an eye strain headache after too much clashing in one day, it wasn't very tough.
The biggest thing was being stingy on troops to get collectors and exposed storages only and resisting going for the win if it was going to cost me additional troops. Troops are time, and time is money! Very different from my mindset in Crystal where the win bonus and keeping that Crystal badge is a big incentive to go for a star.
