I know as a TH7 it seemed ridiculous that I could zap away DE from a TH10 with these super powered defenses. But as a fast way to get 1K DE I did it every time. Also knew the loot penalty protected me from any real damage. Was pretty funny actually watching them 'send a message' crushing my base taking probably 50k gold at absolute best. Chump change from a TH7 and a shield.
As a TH10 I never bothered to 'send a message' via revenge, as it would just end up costing me even more. But as I had been on both sides of the fence I just accepted it as part of the game. Move on, drills more than cover the losses anyway.
Those that did zap, just adapt quickly, take less zaps and add a rage or two. Have a crack for the whole DE storage instead. It basically forces you to learn how to raid more efficiently for DE faster, which will only help in the long run.
