It's far easier to explain to my clanmates to just lightning an AD and they can generally get the three stars I'd expect them to, but we try and get them to upgrade hogs ASAP and get away from dragons as quickly as possible.

Also, for what it's worth, 2R1H is strongest against cored AD's.. which we tend to hog or otherwise ground assault anyway for the three star. Most cored AD designs either have a section of walls that can be flattened by an earthquake spell for a GOWIVA or are vulnerable to hogs.

And defensively, maybe it's just that we pay attention to the basics of anti dragon defense above all else, but two rage one heal attempts against us virtually never get the three star.. I'm usually ecstatic to see an attacker try a two rage one heal or three rage because it gives us a 95% chance at surviving a three star at TH8, and a nonzero chance at TH7.
Hmmm, do all your TH 8's have maxed AD's? Because if that's the case I can see why people fail. I hesitate to use dragon's with max AD's because the margin for error becomes pretty low. In my experience 2r/1h dragon attacks fail because of user error, but of course it's a limited sample, just the ones i've seen. It's frankly amazing the horrible dragon attacks i see. I personally have yet to meet a base at TH8 i can't dragloon unless they have max AD, and even then i may have been able to, just generally don't try, a diff strat is usually better in that case.

I do agree with you, dragons are pretty boring to use, and i resisted them for a while because of it. But the 3 star potential especially if used correctly finally won me over. That and the potential for a fantastic disaster with hogs. I do think hogs are best at th8, but man i have seen some mess up's for 0-1 stars from good attackers at that. And gowipe and it's varients are so base dependent, if there are high level walls and a lot of compartments you can probably expect a 2 star.

At the end of the day, at TH8 at least, the base determines the attack. But if i see a single AD not level 6, it's dragon city for me lol, just can't fail if you do it right.

Edit: i also hold a bit of a grudge against hogs because those attacks tend to favor players that use unethical means of attacking, just grinds my gears

For war: Three lvl 4 lightning to take out air defense with 10 dragons (even level 1) beats any th 7 no matter what the base formation maybe.

3 level 4 lightning/zap spells (whatever you call them). Lightning spell/zap 1 Air Defense, spread/funnel Dragons in towards the other Air Defense. So Drazap (Dragons and Zap spells).

    Automatic 3 star, no jokes.
    - Started playing in December (Late December)
    - At Townhall 8, maxed most of my defenses
    - Maxing most of my troops out only a couple left
    - Maxing Barbarian King out; nearly there
    - Farming with Barch in Gold 3 - Gold 2

I would do 10 lvl 2 dragons with either 4 lvl 6 balloons or a lvl 3-lvl 4 dragon in the Clan Castle.
As for spells , I would use 3 lightning spells to take out the furthest Air Defense.
I wouldn't use 2 rages 1 heal yet because it is hard to master these spells in TH7.

wow 11 light...good to see a fellow student of JTJ U, well since you really know the term and all...

EDIT: I'm wondering why it's not that popular when their vids helped me improve my dragon attacks

I like to use this army on my second account, its quite slow but its fun and its good for war, much cheaper than dragons and hogs. If you want to farm maximum speed barch is most recommended but TH7 should be a fun ride while its easy, don't rush through it and blast out all your upgrades in 2 weeks.

    16 Giants
    8 Wallbreakers
    8-12 Wizards
    Rest Barch
    2 Healing Spells
    1 Rage Spell
Clan Castle: High Level Giants most preferred, but archers/wizards, anything on the ground will do
Barbarian King is recommended but not necessary

Method of attacking: Very easy to use, just make sure you lure the clan castle because they will really mess up your raid if a whole bunch of high level wizards or a dragon comes out. Check for traps, and spam your giants down in one or two places near each other. Follow up with a line of wizards and then barbs, then archers last. Drop wallbreakers as needed. Don't spam everything in one spot or one giant bomb/mortar shot could finish you off.

Great thing about this army is that its very flexible for farming at a steady rate and for war attacking. It has a decent cost so it won't drain all your elixir. You can easily cut out the wizards and replace with more barbs and archers, to save elixir costs and speed up training time, but in war having wizards is preferred. You don't need to expend all your spells every time you raid. 1-2 spells should be fine for most farming raids, 3 for hard bases and war attacks. Try not to attack Town Hall 8 because your troops won't be high level enough to do enough damage.

    Good luck!

There's no reason to take rage and try and fight two AD's when you only have to target one, and your dragon can't tank for hogs nearly as effectively as they can for loons.
This right here is all any TH7 needs to read to get 3 stars on every attack.
