    Th 8.5 is a myth!

I was told to go down the th8.5 route, the more i researched it the more i liked it!

So when my th9 finished i instantly upgraded my clan castle, something i dont regret as i can now get maxed golems

Im all about wars, so when my first war came as a fresh th9 i was eager to see who i was up against, a almost maxed th9 without xbows, okay not bad, obviously only a 2 star but at least i wasnt matched with xbows so it was reasonably fair

Next was i was out as upgrading spell factory

Next war matched with 2 lvl 2 xbows when i have non, 2 star again

This war iv been matched with 2 xbows(only lvl1) again!

So i thought stuff this and have barched like mad to quickly bang 2 xbows in before war starts to make it fair!

I was looking forward to being a nice th8.5 and not worrying about xbows, but now i think stuff this, i would advise anyone else to do the same! will be a put off for being barched im hoping outside of wars also!

    Just my theory

but I think you have to make sure you have other TH8s and TH9s to make this work and make sure you a not on the top 5 spot or it is a mismatch

The effect your weight has on the matchup is minimal, it depends on your clanmates weights as well

Clan wars are not about matching individuals in one clan against individuals in another clan there are about matching all the members in one team against all the members in the opposing team.

It is the combined offence/defence weight of your clan pitted against a, hopefully, equal offence/defence weight of your opponents so one individual should not skew the matchmaking too far one way or the other.

When you attack your opponent, check the amount of gold/elixir available. That's his weight. A typical TH8.5 should have a weight from anywhere between 55-58k (as a 8.5 with 12/12 heroes and 60+ lavas I'm 59k). Opponents who I have faced have, nearly all of the time above 60k.

If you want to take those higher tier opponents, I recommend you get your loons to lvl6 and unlock hounds and upgrade them to lvl2. Watch a couple of Youtube videos and guides on Pentalavaloon- although most say it's an unstable strategy, I've been able to consistently 3 star well upgraded TH9s by doing so.

My dark lab will be maxed in a week and lab will be ready to do lvl 6 ballons at the weekend, so in a couple of weeks i should have hounds and max ballons, worried about changing my attack from gowipe to lavaloon but i fell i have no choice as im only 2 starring my opposite at the mo!

He's talking about the initial loot that you get from destroying the base, not the war win bonus. The war win bonus is 5x the initial available loot I believe? Maybe more...

    You're doing it wrong

You cant compare yourself directly to your opposite number as thats not how the match works

What you tend to find is that if your equal is much stronger than you, then this will be offset by others in the clan matching with opponents a bit weaker than themselves

Remember its a team game and going 8.5 is a CLAN weight benefit rather than individual

Additionally your offensive upgrades also contribute to the clan match but dont show in your war base ranking screen so every troop and spell upgrade also works to bring your weight up

The point of 8.5 is NOT to bring in easier matchups for wars, its to make sure that your clan matchup is as fair as possible whilst you are starting the transition to full TH9.
The current thinking is that whilst troops and defences both count towards war matchmaking, defences seem to be more heavily weighted. Additionally, you can defend for 3 but you can attack for 6 so it makes more sense to prioritise the part that gives you the net best benefit, stars-wise. i.e. your offense

The last point that I want to make is that the impact of one 8.5 town hall is not going to show much in the matchup (especially if you war at 25v25 or more) but if you have a few of them, it definitely helps to ensure that new TH9's dont end up having to attack maxxed / near-maxxed bases whilst still having TH8 war troops

I dont want to go too into it on mirror attacking but I will just say that its not a good strategy and shows a lack of understanding of the concept of the clan weight in war matchmaking
