all my troops are still level 5 so I need to get my giants to level 6 which costs 6 million elixir I have 3.5 million elixir right now but were are the dead bases at? should I push to 1800 from 1650 or go down to silver?

You are a th9. It's time to grow up and stop relying on dead bases. Generally th9s and th10s are active and only some th8s. Just accept that you have to earn your loot from storages now and learn how to raid. The above mentioned leagues are great for this.

Loot at the minute is quite good at around 1400 for me. I would recoemend that you use GiBarch though as alot of the loot is in the storages of those puny town hall 8s.

You're not "growing up" when you stop relying on dead bases- in fact you are being resourceful and clever by looking for them as an early town hall 9- it will massively help you save up for the much needed troop upgrades whilst spending the minimal amount of resources and time training high end armies.
People like the guy I quoted seem to have a problem with this method of farming. He has some kind of inferiority complex- I have noticed this issue with quite a few members on these forums. They claim they are playing the game in the "right" way. They also believe they have some kind of moral high ground when they expend expensive armies that take a long time to make. Not only is it completely counter productive to the idea of "farming", but it's just flat out stupid.
But I'm not complaining- I'll continue to BAM attack dead bases for 400k+ and do this over and over every 15 minutes. You have fun storage raiding and losing more (elix) than you make.
Let me tell you I farmed all Lego walls in less than 3 weeks by hitting dead bases in Silver 3. Relying on dead bases is a totally viable method of farming/ progressing. Best of luck mate.
What I mean is don't rely on them... dead bases are awesome when you find them... I don't want to next for 10 minutes to find one though. Also I raid with gibarch so it takes 20 min... not some expensive army... it costs me only 10k elixir more than BAM but more importantly it keeps my heros healthy for the next raid (except the stupid bk... aq stays healthy though)
If he wants to farm that way then sure. But from what I've found, personally it's better for me to be able to hit fat th8 storages. I find those bases much sooner than a dead base. I boost raid so I can't spend 10 min nexting for a dead base. It works for me. But I'm just offering my opinion.
