I would never boost or gem resources. There are better ways to use your gems. Take time off with gems over resources. You can farm that up cheaper than gemming them. I use mine to boost barracks, upgrade time, and troops for my clannies!

Barracks boosting FTW! Filling up your storages is not worth the gems, you better boost and steal those resources instead of going straight for the fill.

Boosting barracks to farm. Sometimes, I use some to finish an upgrade.
I bought a tank with my gems, so much easier to loot when you run over a complete base.
It's best not to gem up full storages, especially not DE since that costs $50. Most effective way is to boost barracks and I will occasionally gem troops to donate but that's only around 10-15 gems.
