Another good tip for elixir profit is when your main army is training, ALWAYS be on the search for snipes.
Sniping with your heroes or a few troops will always get elixir profit and it help you stay in the higher leagues.
Providing you can find a base that offers around 150k in elixir you should be making a profit even if you get about 100k. You may have to next for a little while but it's certainly doable, and of course don't start using all your spells unless they offer 250k or more gold or elixir.
